In 2013, a strengthened UK Youth with Dave Povall at the helm, surprised many in the British cycling world in the way they dominated the Tour Series and other British events. In 2014, the Welshman was at the helm of Metaltek/Kuota getting the best out of that non UCI team but in 2015, steps back up to a UCI squad in the form of NFTO Pro Cycling.

The British Cycling number one-ranked team secured probably the biggest victory for many decades by a domestic based squad when Adam Blythe won the RideLondon Classic (UCI.HC) and on top that, many other British races including the British Circuit Race Championship with the likes of Russell Downing, Dean Downing, Jon Mould and Adam leading the way for the team.

With the season now all but finished, and riders and managers from 2014 moving on, the team have brought on board manager Dave Povall for 2015 to help the squad continue its successful run in 2015.

Most recognisable for his work with Team UK Youth from 2011 to 2013, Povall has over six years’ experience as a Sports Director, having started with Magnus Backstedt’s Team Sprocket in 2009.

He masterminded UK Youth’s dominant victory in last year’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series, in which they became the most successful squad in the event’s history, winning nine out of 12 rounds.

John Wood (Team Owner, NFTO Pro Cycling) (above with the team in the Tour of Britain) says of the signing, “Dave is one of the best known characters in UK cycling and we are looking forward to having that all-round experience in the team”.

“This season set the benchmark for what can be achieved by a UK domestic team. I think it will be difficult for anyone to replicate that, so I have set Dave some completely different goals around what I think will be achievable in 2015.”

“Last year I was left with some pretty slim choices for team management and there is a lot more to it than booking hotels. Dave has a track record of managing staff and riders, which will enable me to enjoy more cycling.”

Dave Povall (Team Manager, NFTO Pro Cycling) “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of working with NFTO Pro Cycling. To follow the successes of 2014 will be extremely hard, due to some of the wins achieved by Adam, who has made the return to WorldTour for 2015”.

“Also, with such an experienced predecessor in Sean Yates – a guy for whom I have the utmost respect, somebody who’s not only succeeded at the very highest level on the bike, but also in the car – who is also making his return to World Tour duties, I realise I have big shoes to fill!

“The fact the John Wood called me, and has the confidence in me to manage the NFTO Team through 2015 is both a compliment, and a challenge I’m happy to take up. John has assembled an exciting group of riders, which I am certain will feature heavily at races throughout the UK and Europe”.

“I thoroughly enjoyed working with Andy Swain, and his Metaltek-Kuota team during 2014. But with the greatest of respect, it’s fantastic to be working within a UCI Continental team again!”

VeloUK would like to congratulate NFTO Pro Cycling for bringing on board such an established manager and after having given the British scene in 2014 such a shake, look forward to seeing who they have rider wise to do the same in 2015.
