20 year old Hannah Payton has put her studies on hold to pursue her dream of a professional career in cyclo cross by basing herself full time in Oudenaarde, Belgium. Having won last year’s National Trophy series and represented Great Britain at the World Cyclo Cross Championships it was a logical next step for the Kingswinford rider in her development as a top flight international competitor.

Having been a long supporter of local Cyclo Cross competing in the ever popular BWA West Midlands Cyclo Cross League the organizing committee felt Hannah was a deserving recipient of the newly created bursary.

Cyclo Cross is huge in Belgium with massive spectator support and regular TV coverage of all the top races. The bursary will help Hannah to base herself in Oudenaarde for 3 months where she can train full time as well as compete several times a week against the best female riders in the world. This will build up her skills and fitness with an eye on the World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic in January.

The WMCCL Bursary is available to young riders who have supported the league over a number of years and who have achieved some National success but are now looking to progress their career to International level by racing regularly in Belgium. Riders who would like to be considered for the Cyclo Cross Bursary should in the first instance contact the WMCCL Secretary.
