TIME TRIAL (Thursday, June 25th)
This event will be held in the picturesque Lincolnshire Wolds proving that Lincolnshire is not a flat county after all. The circuit will be based at Cadwell Park Motor Racing Circuit which is six miles south of the County town of Louth and 25 miles east of Lincoln.

Cadwell Park circuit is well known for the annual British Superbike event held at the circuit and is well used to handling large crowds which we hope to attract to the championship time trial. The circuit was also used as a venue for the recent film Rush featuring the battle for motor racing supremacy between James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 1976 Formula One Championships.

Cadwell Park circuit

The route for the Time Trial, inside and outside of the circuit, will be held on fully closed roads.

The Time Trials will start from the lower paddock, completing a full lap of the 2.2 mile circuit which includes a climb aptly named The Mountain, leaving via the main entrance along the A153 to the Bluestone Heath Road. Continuing along the Bluestone Heath Road which runs along the top of the Lincolnshire Wolds with a long and fast descent in to the village of Ruckland and a short but sharp climb out to Oslears Lane and back to the Bluestone Heath Road.

Once the outside loops have been completed, the riders will return to Cadwell Park and complete just under half a lap and finish in front of the paddock after another climb of The Mountain. This circuit is 7 miles long and will be covered twice by the elite women and under 23 men and three times by the elite men to give total distances of 21 miles (33.6 Kms) and 28 miles (44.8 Kms) respectively.

This, says the organisers, will certainly be a challenging circuit where some may choose to use low profile bikes but others may well opt for road bikes due to the sharp climbs on the course. Timing will be by transponders with intermediate timing to keep the spectators up to date via a large screen to be placed in the finish area in Cadwell Park.

WigginsChampagneRacing

The time trials will also be used as the opening event of the East Lindsey SO Festival which attracts thousands of visitors to the area with a full programme of cultural events taking place over a 10 day period.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of Cadwell Park owners MSV, commented: “Cadwell Park is adored by motorcycle racers because of its twisting, undulating, and challenging layout, and by spectators because of its beautiful setting in the Lincolnshire Wolds. We’re sure the country’s top road racing cyclists will find it just as exciting, and we’re honoured to be hosting them.”

East Lindsey District Council’s Portfolio Holder with responsibility for Sport, Councillor Adam Grist, said: “The District Council is a keen supporter of the Time Trials and I am pleased that British Cycling could see the potential in the Wolds for this fantastic sporting event – with long flat sections of highway alongside hills and sweeping bends. It promises to be a spectacular event to witness”.

“It is expected the event will also attract many visitors to the area which I hope is an opportunity that local business can take advantage of with the increased footfall. Race Organiser Ian Emmerson believes this challenging course will deliver an excellent champion with all the skills of good bike handling and climbing together with streamlined riding along fast and flat stretches of road”

ROAD RACES (Sunday June 28th)
The British Road Race Championships are the most valued single day event on the British road racing calendar with the winners wearing the National Champions jersey for the ensuing year. With all the National Champonships being held on the same day, the British riders in professional teams based outside of the UK will return home to compete alongside home based teams and riders.

The Tour de France starts the following weekend and a British rider could be wearing the championship jersey won in Lincoln just one week before. The races will be held concurrently with the men starting on the country loop once the women have all joined the Grand Prix circuit.

The Race Headquarters, Team Village, the ceremonial introduction of the riders and the official start will be at The Yarborough Leisure Centre with the suppport of venue management company Active Nation.

The women’s race will start at 10.00 am and cover one lap of a 28 mile country loop around the West Lindsey District Council area followed by four and half laps of the eight mile Lincoln Grand Prix town circuit for a total distance of 67 miles (107 Kms) including 5 climbs of the 1 in 6 cobbled Michaelgate.

2014_WomensRRChamps_10

The men’s race will start at 11.30 am and cover two laps of the country circuit and eight and a half laps of the Lincoln Grand Prix town circuit for a total distance of 123.5 miles (197.6 Kms) and nine climbs of Michaelgate.

The women’s race is expected to finish in Castle Square at 1.00 pm and the Men’s race at 4.00 pm.

Speaking on behalf of the City of Lincoln Council, leader Councillor Ric Metcalfe said “It’s very exciting that the road race championships are coming to Lincoln in 2015. We will be working with the organisers to ensure that the event is safe and exciting for everyone”. Leader of West Lindsey District Council, Cllr Jeff Summers said: “To have part of the circuit in West Lindsey means we will be raising our profile and will have the chance to show the rest of the country what a wonderful area we have.”

THE CIRCUITS
The 28 mile start loop takes the riders north along the B1398 to turn left on to the A1500 to Sturton by Stow, turning right on to the B1241 through Stow, Willlingham by Stow, Kexby, Upton to Corringham where they turn right on to the A631 to Harpswell and right back on the B1398 passing Glentworth, Ingham and Scampton. The women then continue on the B1398 to Burton where they turn right to descend Burton Hill on the Lincoln Grand Prix circuit crossing the finish line in Castle Square and then completing four full laps of the Grand Prix circuit. The Men complete two laps of the town circuit before returning to Burton, joining the Grand Prix circuit and then 8 full laps of the circuit.

Race Organiser Ian Emmerson said of the opening loop(s) “This route is a variation on that used for the Lincoln Grand Prix this year which served as a test event for the National Championships. The unclassified roads proved to be unsatisfactory and have been replaced with the A1500 and A631 sections. I feel that the plans now will result in two very exciting road races and produce very worthy champions”

The finish circuit – the “Lincoln Grand Prix” Circuit – will be Burton, Fen Lane, A57, Long Leys Road, Yarborough Road, Newland, Motherby Lane, Hungate, Michaelgate, Wordsworth Street, Drury Lane, Castle Square (finish line), Bailgate, Newport, Yarborough Crescent, BurtonRoad, Burton, a distance of 8.8 miles.

A BIG MONTH FOR LINCOLN
The 2015 British Road Championships were awarded to the Velo Club Lincoln/Lincoln Grand Prix organisation in February this year and a great deal of work has been going on to ensure that the event will be a success and a credit to the County of Lincolnshire.

In 2015, the Annual Lincoln Grand Prix will be in its 60th edition and the honour of organising the championships and incorporating this prestigious road race in to the event is a fitting tribute to its pedigree. 2015 will also be the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta and on June 15th this will be celebrated in Lincoln which holds one of only four copies of this historic document upon which the constitution of many of the countries of the world is founded.

The refurbishment of Lincoln Castle and the creation of a purpose built museum to house the Magna Carta will be completed and a ceremonial opening of this project will also take place in June. It will also be the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War 2 and a memorial to the airmen who lost their lives in this war will be opened atop Lincoln’s Canwick Hill, its tall structure visible for miles around.
