The 22nd Amsterdam Six-Day awaits a spectacular final day. With one evening of racing remaining, there are three teams who still are within reach of the overall victory. Leif Lampater and Nick Stöpler managed to secure the best position, but feel the hot breath of the duo’s Jasper De Buyst-Pim Ligthart and Niki Terpstra-Yoeri Havik on their necks.

Lampater and Stöpler (224 points) lead the overall with a one lap-advantage over the rest of the field. Behind the German-Dutch duo, two teams sit on the same lap. De Buyst and Ligthart have more points (310), but Terpstra and Havik (261) take a bonus lap when they break the 300 point barrier.

Terpstra and Havik started Friday’s racing with a strong performance in the 100-lap Madison. The Dutch duo immediately launched an attack, which put them in the driver’s seat. During the remainder of the race they controlled and parried all their rivals’ attacks, resulting in a well-deserved victory.

The two Dutchmen were responsible for more spectacle in the elimination race. An extremely late hand-sling in the final lap earned them another victory. Not long after, Terpstra got the Amsterdam crowd roaring with an amazing effort in the derny race. He reached a maximum speed of 70 kilometres an hour and lapped all of his competitors, resulting in a more than convincing win.

The 200-lap Madison brought still more sensational racing. After a tough battle with Lampater-Stöpler, home favourites Terpstra and Havik claimed their fourth victory of the night.

The exciting Madison brought three couples so close together in the overall that on Saturday anything will be possible during the final day in a undoubtedly packed Amsterdam velodrome.
