Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling is pleased to announce that Eileen Roe has signed for the black and orange squad for 2015, and was presented to the media at last night’s Braveheart Fund Fundraising Dinner in Scotland.
The British Circuit Race Champion joins the team with immediate effect and will ride in the upcoming races of the Australian summer. “I am super excited to race in the famous colours of black and orange†Roe said. “I am so proud and thankful to have this amazing opportunity to race along side such talented women already to have been announced in the teams very strong 2015 line up”.
“I cant wait to work along side Egon Van Kessel and Rochelle Gilmore, who have massive wealth of experience to pass on and learn from, to help me develop into a better bike rider to achieve the very best from myself.â€
Supported by the Braveheart Fund, Eileen was the dominant rider throughout much of the British domestic calendar, winning the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series, with victories in the Peterborough and Woking rounds. Having taken her Criterium title, the 25-year-old from Fife, Scotland, proved that she is ready to take on the elite peloton as she finished fourth in the RideLondon Grand Prix; beaten only by Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Giorgia Bronzini, then World Champion Marianne Vos, and World Cup winner Lizzie Armitstead.
“I’m extremely excited about this signing!†exclaimed Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling Managing Director Rochelle Gilmore. “The Braveheart fund have developed some amazing athletes and I’m very proud to be given the opportunity to work with Eileen. It will be a great experience to introduce Eileen to professional cycling and offer her the opportunity to develop alongside World & Olympic Champions. Eileen has won the British National GrassTrack and Circuit championships demonstrating she has the skills required to jump into a world class peloton at the highest level.
“Eileen will commence racing for Wiggle Honda immediately and we look forward to seeing her wear the British National Champion stripes Down Under in Australia next month,†Gilmore added. “Eileen will race the fierce Australian summer criterium season between the end of November, and the end of January which will be a shock to the system for any European Athlete who exchanges their extreme winter for an extreme summer.â€
Eileen Roe is the eighth member of Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling to be confirmed for 2015. She will join Olympic Champion Dani King, Commonwealth champion and Olympic medallist Nettie Edmondson, two-time Giro d’Italia winner Mara Abbott, Belgian champion Jolien D’hoore, Italian time trial Champion Elisa Longo Borghini, Breton Champion Audrey Cordon-Ragot and exciting young Manx talent Anna Christian.
