TEAM PRESS RELEASE

It was another double header this weekend with the final round of the Rapha Supercross at Alexandra Palace and our home race, Round 2 of the national trophy series in Southampton.

Day 1 Rapha Supercross
After a tough start to the Super XCross series, the team was out to make amends and they did in style! All of the team got a great start and settled into the race with Steve James and Jody Crawforth with Matt and Andy Hargroves in a group not far behind.

Ruby Miller got a great start in the women’s sitting in 3rd. The tough course soon started to take its toll with Jody and Steve ridding themselves of all competition and leaving the race to be decided between the 2 of them. It all came down to two bike lengths with Jody getting it from Steve, Matt and Andy both came home in the top 20 and Ruby held onto 3rd. This meant that the team won on the day and pushed themselves up to 2nd overall! Not a bad recovery after a bad start!

Day 2 National Trophy Southampton:
Our home race saw British Champion and national series leader Ian Field take to the start line looking to defend his lead along with Jody, Steve, Tom, Andy, Matt H and Matt M in the Elite race. In an eventful race which saw a race long battle between Ian and Hermans, Ian managed to get the edge in the last few corners and hold out for an emotional win for both Ian and Team owner Pete.

Steve James followed home soon after in 4th with Jody, recovering from a first lap crash which left him last, taking 6th. Tom Van Den Bosch finished in 7th, Matt Macdonald taking 18th and Matt Hargroves paying for the previous days efforts coming home in 36th.

In other races, Ben Tulett retained his lead in the Under 14 series taking off at the start and never being seen again! Steve Davies took 2nd in the Over 50 category recovering from illness and injury to get himself back on the podium! Crispin Doyle regained his early season form to take 3rd in the over 40’s race. Ruby Miller took 8th in the Elite women’s race after a big effort the day before. Harry Yates took 5th in the U16’s race sticking with the lead group until the final few laps but hanging on to 5th.

Ian Field – “After the disappointment of being ill for the opening round of the World Cup series it was back to home turf for the second round of the National trophy Series. Unsure of how I was after the illness I was a bit apprehensive before the start especially with two fast U23 Belgian riders from the infamous Telenet Fidea squad on the start line. However I got a good start and established a good gap with Quinten Hermens, one of the Belgians, we worked well together until come the final lap where I waited for the right moment to hit the front and hold on for the Win. I was over the moon to be back on top and feeling good again winning Hargroves’ ‘Home’ race. “- Ian Field
