TEAM PRESS RELEASE

Zappi’s U23 Racing Development team has a bright future. During the 2014 season they punched well above their weight in world class international amateur races against the best development teams in the world despite not having other teams resources this did not stop the young riders from showing their metal and taking it to the world’s best.

A few examples of this include a fine 2nd place by young star Dan Pearson in the international Coppa Della Pace race followed by 8th overall in the Giro Valle d’Aosta, renowned as being the hardest stage race for u23 riders. These results were then followed by 9th and first 1995 in the Giro d’Emilia by James Knox, a previous two time winner of the queen stage in the Junior Tour of Wales and Junior National hill climb champion.

Other notable results include 2nd and 3rd in the u23 category of the British national road race championships, something that for 2015 we are aiming to win! Team Owner, Directeur Sportif and coach Flavio Zappi is the man responsible for the boy’s success.

A former professional and green jersey wearer at the Giro d’Italia, Flavio has transformed the boys and set them on the paths to be professionals. Without his knowledge, effort and commitment to the team there would be no results.
For 2015 the bar has been raised yet again, but now people are starting to take note. A win in an Italian national and international race is well within our sights and something other teams are probably thinking too.

Taking the national jersey at the u23 championships is a very realistic goal and something the team will be training hard towards from their start base in Portugal and then in Italy. Another strong showing at the Giro Val d’Aosta will be paramount for the team’s success and hopefully British representation again at the Tour de L’Avenir and the Tour of Britain.
