World Cup Countdown – The Brits: Jack Clarkson

Like his Hope Factory Racing teammate, Adela Carter, Jack Clarkson is the sort of rider who is always ready for some banter as the pic below of him at the National Trophy in Durham shows.
The Under 23 rider will racing with the Elite Men at the World Cup in Milton Keynes and says he is delighted to be selected. “I have ridden World Cups and World Championships before so I know the level I am going to be riding at but to ride it on home soil will be big! It’s going to be brilliantâ€.
“When I got the email to say I had been selected it felt like a relief initially. I have done a lot previously for GB in World Cups and World Champs but I was still really hoping I could ride Milton Keynes. Last ‘Cross season I remember being sat in a team car trekking across Belgium with Simon Burney and he was telling me the plan for MK before it was announced. From that moment, I was like right, ‘I have to be at the first British World Cup even if I am on parking duty’!â€
“Having the opportunity to ride was one of my main goals this season so I was delighted to be able to announce that I would be playing with my idols!”
Having a British course says Jack, will work in the British riders favour. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to get better results than previously†he explained. “It may catch a few of the Belges out although probably not Nys and so on.
“I think as an event, it will be way bigger than anything we have seen in the UK before. I think crowds may be smaller than mainland Europe but hopefully the lungs on the Brits will make up for that! Just look how the Brits embraced the tour this year! If we can do the same at MK…”

Jack has been in the top 10 of the National Trophy races since the start of the season and last weekend, won the Yorkshire Points event so will go into the World Cup with a win in his most recent race. Always good for motivation that! He’ll now be tapering down to be fresh and raring to go on Saturday.
He knows though that the gridding will not be kind to the Brits. “We’ll just have to try and move up as quick as possible†he explained. “That first lap makes a difference in those races. Here, after a lap, it’s settled down and you can move up as much as you need but in Europe the front end of the race is moving around so much it’s going to be tough!â€
Jack though knows that unlike a Trophy, the World Cup will have a crowd cheering on the Brits and that he says, will help give them a lift as they do their best to follow the fast wheels. You won’t miss Jack as he’ll be one of four Brits in the Great Britain colours.
So make sure you give him a cheer with “come on Splats!”
