The Birmingham-based company’s commitment to Matrix Fitness – a team at the forefront of the development of women’s cycling in the UK – is great news for budding cycling star Lucy Shaw, from Solihull, West Midlands. The company is now an official partner of the team and is sponsoring Lucy, aged 17, to give her the best chance of making it as a professional cyclist.
The deal means Lucy, who came through the ranks at Solihull Cycling Club, will be an “academy rider†and will feature for the team in some of the most high profile events in the UK, including the Tour Series and Nocturne event.
She will also benefit from high altitude and overseas training, and other support from the experienced team at Matrix Fitness, including double Olympic gold medallist Trott and twice world champion Barker.
Tim Andrews, Hollywood Monster’s managing director and keen cyclist, said: “We are delighted to be able to support a wonderful team such as Matrix Fitness and we hope that Lucy goes on to become a cycling star for Great Britain. She’s an amazing talent and a local girl so we will watch her progress with great interest and will cheer her on all the way.
“Hollywood Monster is committed to women’s sport and this partnership complements our on-going support for top women’s football team, Birmingham City Ladies.â€
Stefan Wyman, the cycling team’s sports director and manager, said: “Tim and everyone at Hollywood Monster have clearly demonstrated they are committed to women’s sport and, with their support, we will be able to take a huge step forward and will help us reach our aspirations. It’s fantastic to have Lucy join the team and we know she’s got a great future in the sport if she continues to work hard and improve.
