UK’s largest two wheel tyre distributor expands portfolio with EDCO wheels
• EDCO heritage compliments Cambrian’s current Continental bicycle tyre brand
• Distribution via targeted dealer network & major investment in UK stock holding, available from January 2015
With 43 years of experience within the tyre industry, Cambrian Tyres have expanded their bicycle portfolio from the solitary Continental tyre brand to include Swiss wheel & component manufacturer EDCO.
EDCO have been manufacturing since 1867, making bicycle parts since 1902 and were bought in 2007 by Dutch engineering group TSG who expended the product range from hubs to complete wheel sets in 2008, followed by MonoBlock cassettes in 2014 and 3AX pedals in 2015. With this heritage in mind and a solid reputation in Europe as a premium brand, Cambrian are pleased to become the exclusive EDCO UK distributor and plan to hit the ground running in January 2015.
“This is a natural step, from tyres onto complete wheels, especially with a European company that hand build all their wheels and who are targeting the premium end of the market. This is in line with a large segment of the Continental brand that we’ve been distributing for the last 25 yearsâ€, commented Cambrian’s southern sales manager Mark Turner, who first approached EDCO.
The wheel range starts at £549.99 RRP and extends via the carbon clincher and tubular options through £1199.99 up to £2149.99 for the 999 gram SuperSport Neggia Light 25mm (tubular) set. Each wheel is hand built using Sapim spokes and is intensively tested.
TSG group CEO Rob van Hoek added, “We have been looking for a UK partner that can place EDCO products into the market via a strong sales team and investment in both stock holding and marketing. Our strengths are in our engineering expertise including patented features like our MultiSys cassette bodies which dispense of the need for separate Shimano/SRAM & Campagnolo compatible wheels and our 7 axle CNC drilling machine which ensures spokes holes will always be drilled at the correct angleâ€.
Cambrian are targeting a select dealer network and will not offer EDCO products to online dealers. The official UK launch will take place at the London Bike Show in February, with EDCO taking a stand (LB300), but with many dealers already signed up and the UK specific website already running, stock will be available from late December / early January.
Every EDCO wheel set will be supplied with a pair of Continental tyres and the brand will also be seen in the UK peloton in 2015 via the Pedal Heaven racing team. The team featured well in the televised Pearl Izumi Tour Series city centre criterium series in 2014 and aim to be even more competitive next year. “Pedal Heaven were keen to come on board after seeing and riding the products. They’ve signed up as official dealers, and the team will race EDCO products next season which is very excitingâ€, added Turner.
EDCO also produce MonoBlock cassettes for both Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo systems, with their 11 speed options even compatible with 10 speed hubs, along with wheel accessories such as pads, skewers, bags and will soon launch a revolutionary new pedal system onto the market. The 3AX sway system allows cyclists feet to move sideways, 2 degrees each way on the axle, allowing a more natural flow with each pedal stroke.
Dealer enquiries are welcome via Cambrian Tyres on 01970 626777 or  info@edco-wheels.co.uk /
