TEAM PRESS RELEASE

National Trophy Round 6
The weekend saw this year’s National Trophy series come to a close with Derby playing host to the final round in what proved to be an eventful day for the Hargroves team.

A day of rain and a night of freezing temperatures made for very slippery racing conditions. Unfazed, our riders rose to the challenge, securing three overall series wins. Ben Tulett, having already sealed the series with a win in Bradford, capitalised on a mistake to win the youth under 14 category by 16 seconds. Ben won five rounds of the series showing his dominance this season.

Next up in the Youth Under 16 race was Harry Yates (below). He finished 3rd in a close tough race but it was enough for Harry to take the series win and hold onto his yellow jersey! Harry rode an extremely tactical race showing real racing acumen making sure he did what was needed to claim the title.

The last race of the day brought Ian Field to the fore where he duly delivered a solid performance to finish second and retain his Yellow series leader’s jersey to clinch the series overall for the first time. The race itself also had another amazing ride, as Tom Van Den Bosch played the perfect team mate helping Ian throughout the race and finishing third himself!

Jody Crawforth finished 11th, Steve James 15th and Andy Hargroves 31st. In other races, Ruby Miller finished 9th in the Women’s event whilst Crispin Doyle was 6th and Malcolm Cross 9th in the Veterans event.

World title for Steve Davies
Steve Davies was absent from the last round of the National Trophy but with good reason! Steve was in Switzerland for the Masters World Championships which he went and won! He was racing in the Vet 54-59 category and won convincingly. Having come so close last year before crashing badly whilst in the lead, he made amends this year and brought home the team’s first rainbow jersey since Dan Mclay’s madison win five years ago!
