A dynamic UniSA-Australia team will feature seven of Australia’s best given the opportunity to impress on the world stage at the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under. The team of Jack Bobridge (SA), Alexander Edmondson (SA), Jack Haig (VIC), Robert Power (WA), Miles Scotson (SA), Neil van der Ploeg (VIC) and Steele von Hoff (VIC) will line up in Adelaide when the Tour kicks off this week.
University of South Australia Vice Chancellor Professor David Lloyd says the University is proud to support this year’s group of young riders in the Santos Tour Down Under. “The University has been supporting Team UniSA-Australia and giving young riders the chance to showcase their talent on the international stage now for 15 years,†Prof Lloyd says.
“This year’s team comprises seven exciting and aggressive young cyclists, who I’m sure, will relish the opportunity to show what they are made of and bring it up to the world’s best. “As Australia’s University of Enterprise, we are delighted to fly the flag for young Australian cycling talent on the world stage.â€
Jack Bobridge (SA) joins the team after a strong return to form which saw him claim bronze in the time trial and sixth in the road race at the last week’s Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships. Dual under 23 national champion Miles Scotson (SA) will make his WorldTour debut after adding two road crowns last week to his glittering track cycling resume which includes junior and senior world titles.
Scotson joins teammate and fellow track world champion Alexander Edmondson (SA) who also had stand out national championship week with under 23 road race silver and top five in the time trial.
Criterium national champion Steele von Hoff (VIC) adds fire power to the team and comes with a point to prove after dropping from World Tour level to British Continental team NFTO in 2015. Robert Power (WA) will look to further his experience after racing 2014 in Europe with the under 23 Australian development team which saw him collect a hat-trick of hill-top victories in Italy.
Returning members Neil van der Ploeg (VIC) and Orica-GreenEDGE bound Jack Haig (VIC) round out the squad. Van der Ploeg mixed it with the worlds best on Mt Buninyong on Sunday, finishing third in the elite men’s road race after his surprise fourth place in 2013 while Haig continues to develop with fourth place in the elite men’s time trial national championships.
The UniSA-Australia team competing at the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under will be led by manager David Sanders.
