Racing finally got underway at the REME test track in the town of Ludgershall on the edge of Salisbury Plain once many a sack full of rock salt was deposited onto it and the sun had risen above the tree lined course allowing the ice to melt away. A bitterly cold wind blew around the track keeping the overall temperatures low all morning.

First onto the 0.9 mile track were the fourth cats riders, their race was 30mins and three laps in distance and despite some attacks the race finally was decided when Rob McGrath (ACU) slipped off the front with 5mins to go and soon built a lead of about 20secs which he maintained to the finish.

Next up were the 3rd cats that now had a drying track but a strong bitterly cold wind to deal with. This race was 40mins and three laps. The race had to wait until the 38th minute before Charlie Cooper (VC St Raphael) attacked but the bunch were not prepared to allow a sneaky move to catch them out and within a lap he was pulled back. The race all came down to a bunch sprint which was won on the line by Adam Cloke (SD Racing).

The final racing of the day saw the E/1/2 on the circuit along with the women, split by a 30secs gap. The men were racing for 45mins and 3laps and the women doing 40mins +3laps. Both the races were decided at roughly the same time when first Tom Morris (PNE) and George Stainton-Ellis (ASL Projects) slipped away from the bunch and between them they soon had built up a lead of 35secs. The women’s race totally split and two riders Chanel Mason (ACU) and Natasha Reddy (RP Racing) pulled clear by 45secs leaving the rest to fight it out for third.

On the half hour mark Tom Morris put in a big attack and got clear of George who soon found himself collected by the bunch although he did manage to stay at the front and win the bunch sprint. As the remaining minutes ticked away there were no changes at the front of each race until Chanel slipped Natasha to also solo to the win in the women’s race.
