News – London 3 Day Stage Race
Gold helmets will mark the winner and the race leaders in the Condor Cycles London 3-day race on 2/3/4 May at Lee Valley VeloPark, Hillingdon and CycloPark race circuits. It is for 2/3 category riders or equivalent juniors.
The prize fund will be £1,200+ and riders can enter here
Condor Cycles proprietor Grant Young says: “We are pleased to again be associated with this race for a wide variety of grass roots riders who may be on the way up or just providing the core of the race programme week in and week out. Who knows, perhaps some may progress through to our main Condor JLT professional team?”
“Last year the organizers admitted it was a trial to see if there was the demand to race on the variety of these traffic free circuits, but the excellent entry proved the case for their effort and our support once again.â€
Each stage will be 80km and the event will be under normal stage race regulations, so all three have to be completed.
Event organiser Stuart Benstead, Archer RC, says: “We have made a slight change from last year in that Hillingdon is now in the middle, while the much tougher CycloPark provides a sting in the tail. Interestingly, last year’s winner was a vet, Wayne Crombie, East London Velo, while at the other end of the age scale Matthew Webber, Catford CC/Banks, a youth rider, was at the head of affairs every day,â€
At Hillingdon and CycloPark there will be a full programme of support racing for youth, women and 3/4/J cats for riders not in the stage race. This is courtesy of organisation of stages by the Willesden CC and the Woolwich CC, two clubs with a long and proud history of putting back into the sport.
Entry details are under the club names and are separate from the entry details for the 3-day. The Lee Valley VeloPark stage is a stand-alone, but is preceded by a London Nordic Roller-Ski meeting after which the organisers are staying on to staff the stage race.
