Report & Result – Lach Dennis Spring Classic

Organisers report …

As we all rose a collective sigh of relief engulfed both riders, organisers and marshalls alike that the predicted deluge had not hit us. As it turns out most of the race was served up under spring like albeit very windy conditions.

Soon after the flag dropped on the 50 starting riders, Steve Fidler of Dave Hinde RT launched the first of two solo forays of the front of the bunch. Soon after the communal skirmishes started properly with several attempts before a seven rider group of Fidler,Christopher Quinn ( Macclesfield Wheelers )), Stuart Percival (G M C Fire Services) with 2014 Dave rayner beneficiary Peter Barusevicus  (All Terrain Cycles) ,Matt Nowell from this years Rayner intake (Kuota – Spinergy GSG), Andy Magnier (Giordana Racing Team ) rounded off with Kristian Zentek from Team Chronomaster doing justice on home turf.

Matt Nowell took both Primes on laps 3 and 7, whilst they opened up a gap just shy of 5 minutes on the bunch. Steve Fidler however suffered an unfortunate fall in the finishing straight a few laps out , but got straight back up and continued finishing ahead of the main bunch but never regaining contact with Quinn suffering a puncture.

In the finale it came to down to a five up sprint between Barusevicus, Nowell, Zentek and Percival with the Magnier showing his experience to take the win narrowly from Barusevicus amd Nowell. All in all a hard fought attacking race in the first few weeks of the season

50.2 Miles in 1:49

Thanks must go out to the officials Simon Wilson, Robert Wright, Iain Walker, the BC NW Accredited marshals team ( Who are indispensable for what they provide ), The NEG riders and finally the members and family of the Manchester Bicycle Club (MBC) ( www.manchesterbicycleclub.org )for making the event come together in but the 8 weeks since new year. For a clubs first official outing, it was rather a good day.
