Another good start to the racing season and the Women’s Team Series was this promotion by the Eagle RC , always a good field for this race and active in spite of the very cold wind.

Let 2nd place Louise Mahe tell the tale of the race
“There’s always a mix of nerves and excitement as you to take to the start line of the first biggish race of the season and with a large field I tried to keep near the front early on. As two riders clipped off the front on the “Hoggenberg”, in pursuit of the first prime, I thought I’d follow.

Even though it was rather early I carried on my effort as the other two sat up and soon had a respectable gap. The wind was blowing hard and I was half expecting to get swept up by the bunch, but with my Ikon Mazda teammates marking other moves the gap wavered but stuck. Three riders then chipped across and we began working together, the bunch seemed to loose interest in chasing and we opened up a bigger gap. By the final lap there were three of us and with two riders from the Army team, who were very strong, it was going to be tough. Unfortunately I waited a little too long to launch my sprint on the final time up the Hoggenberg and one Army girl jumped hard, taking the win by a good few bike lengths”.

“It great to see the team series, in its 15th year, going from strength to strength. Was impressed to see so many 4th cats taking to the line in the support event before our race, this really shows the depth in women’s racing these days!”

Winner Elizabeth Jane Harris had this to say
With the first race of the Women’s Team Series it was nice to see such a big field; the race itself it was a good peleton but halfway through I got away with my team mate Chanel and Louise, we worked well together, it was not a technical course. Coming to the finish my coach had me visualizing the finish so it was a case of putting that into action, I had my team mate lead me out which was good. This is my first race in the Team Series.

Another good start to the racing season and the Women’s Team Series was this promotion by the Eagle RC , always a good field for this race and active in spite of the very cold wind.

SUPPORTING WOMENS RACE
In the support 4th category race it was pleasing as Louise says to see so many riders braving the icy winds, it was a good decision to have two races for senior women and a model for the future. A good early breakaway then a chase by a small group Leaving eventually two riders in the lead with 6 laps remaining and a final sprint, just what all good races are made for especially for winner Sophie it was her first win for her new club Squadra Donne.
