Team Launch for Team WNT
The official launch of Team WNT Elite Women’s Cycle Team at Hope Technologies state of the art manufacturing facility in Barnoldswick, Lancashire is the beginning of an ambitious project that is targeting rapid success in the Matrix Fitness GP and the British Women’s National Road Series.
Team WNT has enticed some significant cycling power and talent to join its ranks with 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, and 2014 Commonwealth Games representative for Scotland, Charline Joiner, who will share the team leader role across the two series with four-times National Champion Hannah Walker.
The rest of the Elite team is Lydia Boylan, who was part of Ireland’s 4km Team Pursuit at the recent Track Cycling World Championships in Paris, Shrewsbury GP winner Brit Tate, Becca Carter, Lauryn Therin (Gold and bronze medallist in the 2015 Newport Para-Cycling International event) and Jo Tindley. Supporting the Elite riders will be a development team consisting of Sam Burman, Rose Osbourne, and Sophie Lankford.
Speaking at the launch of WNT’s involvement in this new team, WNT (UK)’s Managing Director, Tony Pennington says: “We dipped our toe into cycle sponsorship last year by supporting Sam Burman (who we also sponsor in motorcycle racing) and a small team in order to gain a better understanding of Women’s cycling. Having witnessed the excitement and passion involved it was a logical step to increase our participation. With the launch of Team WNT Elite Womens cycle team we are excited at the prospect of competing at the highest level in British cycling and with such a strong team we are extremely hopeful of success in our first season.
“As a company we are passionate about cycling and host a variety of cycling events both here in the UK and across Europe. We fully intend to maximise our involvement with Team WNT by extending invitations to customers to attend races as our guests. We see this as an extension of the partnerships we have already created with customers such as Hope Technology, and our investment in the team will provide opportunities for our customers to become involved, while providing a boost for women’s cycling in the UK.â€
The teams launch was deemed a huge success, which saw guests greeted by the riders before a tour of Hopes factory where everyone could see WNT tools in action creating some of the parts that the team will race on. This was followed by a presentation from global MD of WNT, Claude Sun, who had flown in especially to meet the team.
We did manage to then squeeze in a traditional photo shoot before it got dark! Later that same week saw the team jet off to the warmer climbs of Lanzerote for twelve days of quality training and team bonding. A great time was had by all and we can look ahead to the season as a real unit.
Team rider Jo Tindley managed to score a brace of wins straddling the training camp, winning her first race in our colours at Ludgershall the day before our flight and then winning at Ilton a couple of days after our return! A great start for the team and hopefully the first of many victories.
