Another successful weekend of racing for Achieve Northside Skinnergate
After an outstanding start to the season in the UK, the core of the elite team headed to Belgium to complete their preparations for the Chorley GP, April 4th, the opener of the British Elite Road Series.
Racing two Kermesses (multi lapped races of 110-140km, around a town) near Ghent in the cycling hotbed of West Flanders.
Saturday the team headed to Zele to complete 12 laps of a twisty, technical circuit that had cobbles, rain and tram lines to content with.
Ben Hetherington established the race winning move on lap one of the race, riding solo for the first three laps before eventually a group of fifteen bridged across to him, including Will Brown from the team. The race split and re-joined several times with Ben eventually contesting the win from a group of seven, finishing an excellent 4th, and Will sprinting in strongly for 12th.
On Sunday it was over to Schoonarde for a 22 laps of a 5km circuit that included a number of dead turns. Aggressive from the outset the team put four riders in the winning break of 18, with the team controlling the field behind the gap grew to a minute with the lead group fragmenting and reforming with each passing lap.
Going into the finale Ben forced his way into a split of 10 riders, eventually finishing 7th despite the previous days efforts, with Alex, Brad and Will sprinting in well for 11th, 13th and 15th a fantastic overall collective performance from the entire team.
Closer to home in the Spring RR in Northumberland, Josh Moody took the teams seventh road win of the season in convincing fashion, leading a 2-man breakaway to a two minute advantage on the field before adeptly dropping his break away companion to finish solo hands aloft.
The team now switch to a final block of training and race simulation before the Chorley GP, 4th April.
