SweetSpot Group Press Release
Matrix Fitness will continue their sponsorship of the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series into a fifth season, with three new venues – Motherwell, Croydon and Bath – joining the five round calendar. Britain’s leading female cyclists will race at five of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series venues, beginning at Redditch on Tuesday 19th May, and culminating four weeks later on the historic cobbles of Bath on Thursday 11th June.
Gemma Bonnett, Head of Marketing for Matrix Fitness commented: “Matrix is delighted to extend its partnership with SweetSpot for a fifth consecutive year. Supporting the progress of women in sport is a key objective for the Matrix brand, and sponsorship continuity ensures that we are able to grow and enhance the Series year-on-year.
“In addition, feedback from previous years tells us that this event really does motivate people to get on their bikes, and with the calibre of rider and field size increasing yet again in 2015, we’re looking forward to some exciting racing, and inspiring even more women to get active.â€
For the second year in succession there will be a Scottish round, this year at Motherwell, for Round Two, before another new event in south London at Croydon. The Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series will conclude with two events in the final week, at Peterborough, which has held women’s races annually, and Bath.
“We have a great combination of previous venues like Redditch and Peterborough that have consistently made for good racing, and three exciting new venues that will have new challenges and new circuits to learnâ€, said Mick Bennett, Race Director of Series organisers SweetSpot. “This year we also have the final round of the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series taking place alongside the final event of the men’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series in Bath, at which all of our 2015 champions will be crowned.â€
Johnson Health Tech UK Ltd – parent company of the Matrix Fitness brand – has sponsored the women’s racing at the Tour Series since 2010, when Series organisers SweetSpot promoted the one-off Horizon Fitness GP, won by Dani King. In 2011 this evolved into the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series, which was renamed the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series in 2014.
In 2014 Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International were the team champions, with Eileen Roe winning the individual honours and Helen Wyman the Sprints title. Highlights of each round will be shown as a part of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series highlights on ITV4, the evening after each event.
