Team News – Raleigh’s Good Form

Eight riders from Raleigh-GAC took part in the inaugural Chorley Grand Prix on Saturday and it was a brilliant team performance resulting in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. A thrilling finale saw Ian Bibby (NFTO) take the win ahead of Steve Lampier (2nd), Morgan Kneisky (3rd) and Karol Domagalski (4th).

A break of two riders took an early lead on the group but they were, somewhat inevitably, brought back to the main bunch. There were a number of smaller breaks after that but none that stuck until the third lap climb of the Rivington hill.

There, eighteen riders, including Raleigh’s Steve Lampier, Karol Domagalski and Morgan Kneisky, made the decisive move. On the last lap, a huge attack saw a gap created by a Eddie Dunbar (NFTO) and Karol did a great turn on the front to reduce the gap to give Steve the opportunity to bridge across.

Another attack in the final kilometres saw the chance of a win slip away from Steve but for the first big test of 2015, the team showed the power it has at even this early stage of the season.

Team principal Cherie Pridham said: “I am incredibly pleased with today’s result. The team are working well together. It’s about being cohesive and disciplined and that showed in the final with 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.”

“Karol was tactically brilliant and was instrumental in the two podium positions. Team captain Ian Wilkinson showed some great form after a bad chest cold and it’s clear he is moving in the right direction”.

“Sam Lowe and Brad Morgan both managed to hit the same pothole and punctured which was really unfortunate as they were both going well. “We are looking forward to the Tour of the Reservoir this weekend.”
