Team Velosport’s Hayley Simmonds claimed an excellent win in the Essex Spring Road Race, held Sunday 26th April

Team Velosport’s Hayley Simmonds claimed an excellent win in the Essex Spring Road Race, held Sunday 26th April, after another fantastic team performance. Simmonds along with teammates Jennifer Crouch and Hayley Edwards were active throughout the first half of the race, throwing in numerous attacks to keep the pace high, paving the way for Simmonds’ eventually successful attack.

Simmonds broke clear with Charlotte Colclough just after the halfway mark, surging away from the bunch on the short climb along Southend Road and then extending the break’s lead by driving the pace hard on the long drag up Pan Lane.

The break soon established a lead of 30secs, and a lap later this had extended to 1min 15sec. Simmonds was doing by far the majority of the work in the break while Jennifer Crouch controlled affairs in the bunch behind.

At the finish Simmonds and Colclough had a 3 minute advantage over the bunch, with Simmonds taking the win. Crouch comfortably won the bunch sprint for 4th after Chelmer CC’s Lauren Kirchel had clipped off near the end to claim 3rd.
