News – British Road Champs at Stockton 2016

News today that the British Road Championships for 2016 will be held in Stockton on Tees, a huge accolade for the organisers of the Stockton Festival that was established in 2011 as a 3 day all inclusive festival of cycling.

This including racing, cycle related entertainment and fun activities. In 2012 the event achieved then Premier Calendar and Elite Crit status, moving on to be part of the Grand Prix series.

It’s always been an event which stands out due to the more Sporting course, not overly challenging so that the racing is always open and exciting with the majority of the field still in contention when the race reaches the Riverside finishing circuit. It’s been a popular event with spectators too which was a big factor in the successful bid for the National Championships.

The Road Race course will be a development of the existing Grand Prix course with the possibility of an extended main loop to include an additional hill. The Time Trial course is brand new and is a mix of a technical Town Centre section and out of Town straight fast section with a significant drag in both directions.

Velo29-Altura and Stockton Council have put a huge amount into progressing the event to it’s National Status and it’s a huge achievement for the organisation and the area.
