Good early season form continues for Team WNT
Team WNT comes away from The Tour De Yorkshire with heads held high after it continued its early season form, taking an impressive fourth place in the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire. With the team depleted by injury, just four Team WNT riders took to the starting line for the 80km circuit (4 x 20 km laps) around York. The four were Charline Joiner, Lydia Boylan, Brit Tate and Hannah Walker.
A powerful effort by all four ensured that the sprint finish was hotly contested with Charline taking fourth place frustratingly just 0.1 seconds off third placed rider Katie Curtis and 0.2 seconds of the top step of the podium. Team spirit is high and shortly after the race finishes Charline Tweeted: “Proud of how my @WNTTeam teamies rode today at @letouryorkshireMore active & always up there. Gutted not to have podiumedin the end.
Lydia followed with : “Great women’s race @letouryorkshire Had a few digs off the front. The crowd was just amazing! Great result for @ChaJoiner @WNTTeam with 4th!†And Brit chipped in with: “@letouryorkshire@WNTTeam what a fantastic women’s race Suberb 4th for @ChaJoiner! Great performances by the team today top efforts!†Hannah, who is still regaining form after donating bone marrow to her brother tired got dropped as the pace hotted up towards the end, but never gave up, trying to fight her way back to assist where she could. A fantastic team effort.
With Charline sitting second overall in the British Cycling’s Women’s Road Series the season really has got off to a flying start and when everyone is back from injury Team WNT will be a force to be reckoned with as we go deeper into the season and the Matrix Fitness Series kicks in.
Team manager Marcus Nainby “The team rode a superb, attacking race and we just missed out on a podium spot. It was a fantastic event that we look forward to seeing grow in the future!”
