Winner Winner Chicken DinnerYorkshire clearly is the racing place to be, Barnsley Road Clubs’ “The Barnsley Road Race” was held on Sunday 10th May 2015, on the Holmfirth Hade Edge circuit amid blustery but dry conditions.

This spectacular course is well known as a climbers circuit with around 1500 m of elevation gain through its 55 mile passage, but on Sunday any rider aiming to win had to master brutal cross winds at the top of the course, and the mile long grippy drag on each lap.

That rider was Thomas Traviss-Pollard, a local based rider from Holmfirth Cycling Club, and at 21 (on Tuesday) is a rider to keep a keen eye on.

The race commenced and upon reaching the top plateau, attacks soon started, but it wasn’t until a 3 man break emerged, combining the powers of Traviss-Pollard, Michael Harris (HD Revolutions), and Adam Snow (Velo Viewer) together and benefitting from co-operative riding to gain 2 minutes on a shattered peloton which was now spread around the circuit.

Coming from an athletics background, Traviss-Pollard, who had already taken the first ‘sprint prime’, was looking ever more comfortable with his 2 break away companions, and on lap 6 decided he wanted to go it alone. Very early on the climb of the sixth lap, Traviss-Pollard simply increased his leg speed effortlessly, and once over the finish line had already amassed 45 seconds on his former comrades.

Taking the second prime unopposed Traviss-Pollard simply battled on, time checks read for the next 5 laps, minute on minute increases to the next place rider. Upon the completion of 12 laps, Traviss-Pollard rose to the adulation of waiting crowd to achieve 4m56s gap over the next placed rider. Riders came in, with huge time gaps, but the man of the moments’ achievements in his home area is the stuff dreams are made of. If he keeps repeating this type of performance, read back, you heard this here first!!
