News – Bristolians Get Behind Bristol GP
EVENT PRESS RELEASE
BIG Green Week and Le Sportif extend Crowdfunder campaign to #getBristolcycling after incredible response
• New cycle road race storms through original target due to overwhelming support
• Deadline extended to end of May to reach £15,000, increase support for youth and women riders
• T-shirt designs now released
The city centre cycle road race will take over the streets of Bristol on 20th June 2015 and the organisations are calling on Bristolians to help them #getBristolcycling through the Crowdfunder campaign. The original target of £8,000 was smashed through following high profile donations by Bristol City Council and Truestart Coffee and the team have extended the deadline to the end of May to reach their stretch target of £15,000.
Crowdfunders can make donations of between £10 and £300 and receive rewards from a lap of the course to banners emblazoned with their company name. T-shirts designed by local designer Tom Cawardine have sold almost 100 in numbers since being released over the weekend and are styled to match the pink Italian Giro race winner’s jersey or yellow to match the Tour de France.
The team hope that the extended target, which goes towards a baseline project budget of £40,000 will:
• Invest in ensuring the Bristol Grand Prix becomes an annual cycle race event in Bristol
• Invest in rider development work that supports young people and women in Bristol to take up cycling for sport
• Invest in road danger reduction initiatives for young cyclists and commuters in Bristol
• Improve facilities for spectators at the race
The race will take place over a gruelling 1.3km distinctive and unusual figure-of-eight course – 1.1m/45min + 1 lap circuit. Up to 50 riders will contest each race, with the circuit and categories ensuring the racing will always be exciting to watch. The course traverses the centre of Bristol, crossing both over and under Park Street.
