News – Elliott Guest of Honour at Champs Luncheon
Hailing from Sheffield, Malcolm has always been a popular rider especially in Lincoln with one of the early wins in a long racing career being the 1983 Lincoln Grand Prix.
That event was the last to be held on what might be called a Sprinter’s Course with the finish on the long straight Long Leys Road. The following year the course changed on to the City Centre route which included Michalegate and finishing on Lincoln High Street’s High Bridge outside Woolworths.

Prior to this Malcolm took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and going on to win Gold in the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games Road Race where he was also a member of the winning England Team Time Trial squad.
He went on from 3rd place overall in the 1983 Milk Race to second in 1986 and eventually winning overall in 1987 winning five stages that year and repeating the overall win in 1990.
1983 was Malcolm’s last year as an amateur before moving in the professional ranks and a contract with the Raleigh Weinmann team in 1984. A long and chequered career followed riding with several top teams and rides in the Tour de France, Vuelta, Olympic Games and a win in the British National Professional Road Race Championship in 1993.
Malcolm has been ‘retired’ from racing since 2011 but carries on as a team official and will shortly be heading off to the Tour de France as a ‘chauffeur’ driving an organisation Guest Car.
Malcolm has made numerous visits to repeat his Lincoln Grand Prix win and still holds the course record time for the racing circuit at Yarborough Leisure Centre set on opening day and never bettered.
Malcolm will join British Cycling President Bob Howden at this luncheon being held as the opener for the Championships week with the Time Trial Championships on June 25th at Cadwell Park and the road races based in Lincoln on June 28th.
