The Great Britain Cycling Team will be in action at the opening round of the 2015 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Maniago, Italy which starts today (Friday).

News – GB Paracycling Ready for World Cup

Friday’s racing will see 2013 World time-trial champions Lora Turnham and Corrine Hall in action after opening their season with a victory in the tandem B time-trial at the Verola Para-cycling cup in Italy last month, before competing in the road race over the weekend, an event in which they are current world champions.

Paralympic silver medallist Karen Darke is also selected in the squad and is joined by Jaco Van Gass, Simon Price, Brian Alldis, Jon Gildea, and Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby on the men’s tandem, who will all be looking for strong performances to make selection for the Road World Championships at the end of July.

The team will again be looking to pick up important qualifying points for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

Great Britain para-cycling road coach, Paul Dring, said: “We’ve had a good couple of days out here in preparation for this weekend’s racing and the squad is in a really good place. The team have spent some time familiarising themselves with both the courses and conditions are we are confident that they are ready to deliver solid performances this weekend.”

“It will also be a great opportunity to have a look at some of the less experienced members of the squad and start to get an idea of what everyone is capable of and where we have room for improvement. With Paralympic qualification points up for grabs and selection for the world championships just around the corner every member of the team is focused and motivated for the challenges ahead.”
