Team News – Madison Genesis at the Tour Series
Round 8 — Canary Wharf | 4 June 2015

TEAM PRESS RELEASE
The familiar venue of Canary Wharf was host to the eighth round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series last night. The entire circuit, surrounded by the vast shadows of the financial buildings of the wharf never fails to create an electric atmosphere and the simple, wide rectangular circuit is tailor made for a bunch sprint, rather like Barrow-in-Furness last Friday.

The team were really keen to put the disappointment of losing Croydon due to crashes behind them, but once again lady luck would have her say on the outcome of the race.

Having made an amazing recovery after a heavy fall on Tuesday, Tom Stewart came through the pits for the first time in the first few riders of the bunch ready to start racing when once again disaster struck. A rider in front of him misjudged the apex of a corner, clipped the barriers and was sent sprawling across to the other side of the circuit, in doing so taking Tom Stewart with him.

On an open fast circuit like Canary wharf, it was a disastrous start for the team. A ONE Pro driven bunch built a 55 second lead before Madison Genesis eventually regrouped and set about trying to get back to the fast moving front group. A strong 50 minute team time trial followed and second place in the team competition ensured that Madison Genesis retained the overall lead in the series.

Roger Hammond, Team Manager: “It’s really unfortunate to have had the outcome of the race decided again by a crash – especially so early on – but that’s something we cannot control. I really hope the rider that hit the barriers is ok, it looked nasty. How Madison Genesis dealt with the situation though made me really proud of them, that was a really courageous effort and they can hold their heads high after that.”
