Alex Fanshawe (Zappis Cycling Club) the 19 year old from Hungerford was the winner of the second round of the Oxfordshire league on the Woodcote South Stoke course with a solo finish after attacking two others with 1km to go. The race was promoted by the GS Henley club and was 5 laps with a total of 78km/48miles. The morning started with a damp course but the early morning rain stopped and by the time the race finished the sun was out and the course had dried.

The first two laps saw the peloton pretty much all together despite a couple of riders trying to stretch their legs but the attentive bunch soon pulled it back. On the third lap a break formed at the front and soon five riders had got away to open out a lead of 35secs. The leading group consisted of eventual winner Fanshawe along with Oliver Hedger (Personal Bikefit.com), Robert King (GS Henley), James Lambton (Oxford Uni CC) and Shaun Rouse (North Road CC). Rouse was dropped on this lap and went back to the peloton as the leaders extended their lead to 40secs.

The four up front seemed to be working well together over the next couple of laps but just before the bell the gap to the bunch quickly tumbled and the race all came back together. As the race turned out of Woodcote onto the main road the race speed increased and soon the bunch began to string out. When the race turned left and headed towards South Stoke three riders managed to start to build a lead.

The three were Fanshawe, Kurt Green (Sodbury Cycle Sport) and James Lambton, and their lead was a meagre 15secs. The peloton were chasing them down but the three managed to hold on until the 1km when Alex Fanshawe made his final attack of the day and dropped his two escapees. Fanshawe finished off the race with a solo salute leaving the other two to fight out the sprint four seconds adrift. The bunch came in 12secs spread out on the little rise.
