News – Spend Xmas in Aussie Racing
This from Dr Catherine J Broun in Australia
An invitation is extended to all female cyclists to participate in the Christmas Carnivals in Australia. Having emailed all the Federations and Clubs in the Northern Hemisphere, I am for a second and probably LAST year, offering free accommodation and local travel to the first 10 girls who come and compete at the Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals.
The carnivals run on a handicap system therefore IF you all ride as a TEAM, I would LOVE to see you BEAT the likes of Amy Cure and Annette Edmondson as they pretty well ‘cleaned up’ last year all the prizes on offer last year!
As it is a PRE-OLYMPICS year I have no idea if they are coming this year, it is a bit early to know so they might be too busy and money is probably a secondary consideration! My husband Peter and I sponsor the Devonport Carnival Women’s Wheelrace, which is the richest Women’s Wheelrace in Australia.
Wheelraces are HANDICAP races – so EVERYONE has a good chance to win the money!
If the handicapper does a good job, the ENTIRE field should arrive at the finish line together, theoretically! I would like to personally invite female cyclists to ride in the Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals and offer free accommodation in my house, and free local transport, to the first ten female cyclists.
WE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU!
Carnivals consist of:
— 4 Carnivals – 5 days of racing (Devonport is held over two days/evenings)
— Dates for Latrobe and Launceston yet to be confirmed.
— The Tasmanian series fits well with the Bay Cycling Classic in Geelong, Victoria (Criteriums – usually 2-5 January) and the National Road series leading into the Tour DownUnder (men only).
— The Tasmanian Criteriums (Men only, possibly) are still to be confirmed.
— Wonderful WEATHER guaranteed!

ACCOMMODATION
Our house accommodates for 10 people – basement apartment and 2 upstairs bedrooms (5 double/queen beds). I can offer more places for anyone prepared to sleep on mattresses on the floor, sharing the same rooms. The house has 3 bathrooms, plus wash basins in the bedrooms. Obviously, there are many hotels and motels also. You would need to pay for these.
So you will only have to pay the airfare and the race entries!
