Report – Isle of Man Youth League
(from Dot Tilbury)

Conditions were the best they have been all summer for the 292 competitors who turned out at sun-drenched NSC last Tuesday night for round nine of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

Abigail Cowell rode clear of the field to take the top slot in the novices’ class for the third week running. Nicole Astell-Burt was a safe second and Evie Wright led Oliver Schofield and Abbie Jones home for third. Charlie Kneale outran Abi Cullington, Joel Prentice and Liberty Delooze in the rush for sixth, with Tyler Oakley-Cowie coming home alone to complete the top ten.

In the born 2010 & later age group Brad Le Geyt outsprinted breakaway partner Kylan Murphy for his seventh win of the series. Daniel Minay edged out Joshua Cross, Dylan Bullock and Archie Mulholland in the dash for third, while leading girl Amelie Geldart held off Samuel Dowson in the tussle for seventh. Stanley Kinnish pipped Oliver Kellett for ninth and Thomas Kellett won the bunch gallop for 11th.

Eddie Dillon inched ahead of Cameron Hounsell on the finishing straight to extend his unbeaten run in the born 2009 category. Jake Jones was a lonely third and Sean Crone got away from top girl Abi Clayton on the final lap to snatch fourth. Matthew Hooper was an unchallenged sixth and Thomas Pickavance led Zach Jones and May-Saa Smith over the line for seventh. Jonah Kenny outgunned Jarno Davidson, Cillian Sharkey and Thomas Radcliffe to round off the top ten.

Returning to his winning ways after the previous week’s defeat , Alec Sorby pipped fellow escapee Myles Le Geyt for the honours in the born 2008 event. T.J.Teare was too quick for Freddie Griffin in the battle for third and George Kinnish stayed clear of chasers Oliver Cooper, Fearne Bregazzi and Charlotte Geldart to claim fifth. Bob Radcliffe kept the fast finishing Edward Field at bay for ninth, while Leon Murphy and Ella Darnill parted company with the main bunch to secure 11th and 12th places. Charlie Williams and Tiana Kelly led the rest of the field home.

Orry Lund scored his maiden win the born 2007 class, outsprinting the previously unbeaten Cian Howard in the final rush for the chequered flag. Rio Kelly broke free from Charlie Scarffe and Florence Griffin in the closing stages to bag third, with James Kinrade overtaking Cory Corkhill for sixth. Jordan Carter overcame Jemma Quayle in the dart for eighth and Ed Coole came in on his own to fill the final place on the top ten leader board.

In the born 2006 race Owen Collins beat Ivan Sorby, Zachary Dowson and Drystan Sewell in the final sprint to pick up maximum points for the eighth time and further cement his position at the top of the overall standings. First girl Nicola Quaye rode away from Tom Caine to land fifth and Samuel Devereau clipped off the front of a group of five chasers to take seventh. Sophie Smith and Rebecca Cooil were the second and third girls in eighth and 11th places respectively.

Three riders contested the finish of the born 2005 three lapper, with Oliver Corkish producing a rapid turn of speed to score his first win of the season. Five time winner Tyler Annis and Mairi Harrison were a close second and third, with Callum Salisbury coming from behind to seize fourth from Frank Kinnish and Chloe Dillon.

In the poorly supported born 2004 & earlier grouping Tyler Hannay went from the gun and stayed clear to the finish. Dillon Dowson outran Matthew Black, Nathan Slack and James Devereau in the fight for the runners-up spot, while sixth placed Kiera Prentice got the better of Emily Kinley and Ellie Warren in the competition for the girls’ prize. Sam Cunningham wrapped up the result sheet.

Six riders broke away at the start of the under 10 racing bikes and were never caught. Niall Colquitt spearheaded the charge for the chequered flag closely followed by Owen Collins, Cian Howard, Drystan Sewell, Cian Jackson and Ivan Sorby in second to sixth places respectively. Tyler Annis got the verdict over Frank Kinnish in the chasing group gallop for seventh place and Mairi Harrison took the girls’ award in 14th spot.

In the under 12 racing bikes Tyler Hannay and Zac Walker escaped from a leading group of seven riders at half distance and powered away to the finish where Hannay came out on top in the final sprint. Matthew Cooil outpaced Tommy Skillicorn, Jonty Bregazzi, Jack Christian and Matthew Black in the struggle for third, with Kiera Prentice the highest placed girl in 12th position.

Five riders road clear on lap seven of the under 16 racing bikes and eventually lapped the field. Conor Davies took the final sprint ahead of Will Draper, Dan Scarffe, Thomas Bostock and Adam Kelly, while Ben Christian won the sixteen-strong chasing group gallop for sixth. Tosh Teare, Adam Scarffe, Tara Ferguson and Max Walker completed the top ten.
