Round ten of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth cycling league was staged at the NSC last Tuesday night in brilliant sunshine. Flourishing in the near tropical conditions, the 278 competitors who took part in the eleven race programme put on an exciting display of circuit racing.

In the novices class Abigail Cowell recorded her fourth straight win, taking the chequered flag well clear of Nicole Astell-Burt in second place. Abbie Jones was a safe third and Oliver Schofield held off Evie Wright and Joel Prentice in the race for fourth. Jack Monaghan pipped Abi Cullington and Elliot Hildestam-Rice for seventh, with Kerron Corlett edging out George Lee in the battle for the final spot on the top ten leader board.

Brad Le Geyt outgunned Stanley Kinnish and Dylan Bullock in the dash for the top slot in the born 2010 & later category. Amelie Geldart led Lula Kinnish, Archie Mulholland, Harrison Skillan and Joshua Cross over the line for fourth, while Hugh Osborn got the better of Oliver Kellett, Jack Edwards, Conor Madsen-Mygdal and Thomas Kellett in the fight for ninth. Shannon Skillan overtook Darragh Sharkey in the closing stages to secure 14th and Max Messenger resisted the challenges of Carter Kneale and Grayson Hudgeon-Young in the scrap for 16th. Macaulay Teare and Zac Lund completed the top twenty.

Making his move on the finishing straight, Eddie Dillon edged ahead of breakaway companion Jake Jones to hold onto his 100% record and clinch the overall honours in the born 2009 age group with nine rounds to spare. Sean Crone beat Abi Clayton and May-Saa Smith in the rush for third, with Thomas Pickavance and Zach Jones escaping from the main chasing group to grab sixth and seventh respectively. Max Davies shaded Cillian Sharkey, Jarno Davidson, Matthew Hooper and Henry Dormer in the bunch sprint for eighth.

In the born 2008 race Alec Sorby and T.J.Teare caught lone breakaway rider Myles Le Geyt on the line to seize the top two podium positions. Freddie Griffin was a close fourth and the fast finishing Fearne Bregazzi ousted George Kinnish for fifth. Bob Radcliffe overcame Oliver Cooper and Edward Field in the tussle for seventh, while Charlotte Geldart stayed clear of pursuers Ella Darnill, Charlie Williams and Tiana Kelly to round off the top ten.

Bouncing back from his defeat in the previous round, Cian Howard went from the gun in the born 2007 event and time trialled to victory. Orry Lund held off Charlie Scarffe in the struggle for second and Rio Kelly rode away from the chasing pack to nab fourth. Florence Griffin led the charge for fifth closely followed by James Kinrade and Jemma Quayle. Jordan Carter, Ben Davies and Ella Skillan wrapped up the top ten.

Owen Collins, Ivan Sorby and Nicola Quaye broke away together at the start of the born 2006 class and were never caught. Quaye led until the final lap when Collins and Sorby came out of her wheel tracks to snatch first and second respectively. Tom Caine maintained a lonely fourth and Samuel Devereau led Harry Callin home for fifth. Sophie Smith outran Jack Christian, Gabriel Coyle and Tom Darnill in the bunch gallop for seventh.

Tyler Annis outsprinted fellow frontrunners Frank Kinnish, Oliver Corkish and Mairi Harrison to pick up maximum points in the born 2005 category, while Tyler Hannay surged ahead of Nathan Slack, Matthew Black and Dillon Dowson to take the honours in the born 2004 & earlier grouping.

Seven riders contested the finish of the under 10 racing bikes with Niall Colquitt getting the verdict over Owen Collins, Cian Jackson, Ivan Sorby, Drystan Sewell, Frank Kinnish and Cian Howard in the final dart for the line. Tyler Annis kept Mairi Harrison at bay in the tussle for eighth and James Scott came from behind to win the gallop for tenth.

In the under 12 racing bikes Zac Walker came out on top in a close finish with fellow escapees Tyler Hannay, Tommy Skillicorn and Matthew Cooil. Jonty Bregazzi led the second wave of riders home in fifth position, with Darcy Cain the leading girl in 11th spot.

Following numerous but ultimately unsuccessful attempts to get away, Conor Davies won the under 16 racing bike event in a mass sprint between fifteen riders. Thomas Bostock was second followed by Adam Kelly, Daniel Scarffe, Tosh Teare and Ben Christian. The top three girls were Tara Ferguson, Eleanor Davies and Amelia Sharpe in ninth, tenth and 13th places.
