News – Second week for Great Tour

The Countrywide Great Tour set off last Saturday from Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey, led by a twenty strong team including rider guides, logistics experts, catering and maintenance staff who have been supporting participants for the opening seven days of this epic 64 day journey. Riders have experienced the highs and lows of cycling, being faced with tough terrain and challenging weather conditions all made worthwhile being surrounded by some utterly breath-taking scenery every day.

Riders taking part in the first week of the charity cycling event have enjoyed North Wales, the North West of England and the South west of Scotland greeted by a wide variety of sights and sounds on a busy week enduring a total of 807km of coastline so far.

Kicking off the same day as the Pro Peloton taking part in the biggest cycling event in the World, the Tour de France, the Countrywide Great Tour participants have endured punctures, steep climbs and some very hot and changeable weather. 100% of participants have completed their stage or multiple stages (all routes averaging 100km per day) crossing the finish line with a sense of achievement, a smile on their face and a new respect for the un-paralleled beauty of Britain’s iconic coastline. The support of locals and small businesses along the route which passes through small seaside villages and hamlets has been mentioned by all that have taken part, appreciating those that have wished them well along the way.

Week 2 of The Countrywide Great Tour takes the team and riders into the most rural and unspoilt coastline in Britain, stages will hop between islands such as the Isle of Arran and Tobermory off the West coast of Scotland. Participants entering single stages can expect to experience the natural beauty and wildlife that only riding a bike through these secluded places allows you to fully appreciate.

Week 3 will continue over the most northerly points of the country stopping off in Scourie, Tongue and Wick amongst other picturesque seaside locations as the riders aim to complete their 64day, 6700km circumnavigation.

Entries are still open for the Countrywide Great Tour and participants wishing to signup can do so by visiting www.thegreattour.co.uk
