Alex Braybrooke of the HMT Academy Cycling Team, this week signed a contract for the 2016 season with the Under 23 division of world tour team, Lotto Soudal. Braybrooke of Wilmslow, Cheshire will move out to join the team in East Flanders [Belgium] at the beginning of 2016.

Braybrooke will be following in the footsteps of James Shaw, a fellow British rider who signed for Lotto Soudal last year. James rode for the same team as Alex, before moving to Belgium, showing just how successful the HMT Academy setup has been.

Alex has had his best season to date this year, with top 5’s in nearly every major tour and race across Europe that the team have competed in, with the highlight being 2nd overall at the Junior Tour of the Basque Country, last month [http://www.roadraceacademy.cc/tag/bizkaiko-xx-itzulia/].

Braybrooke has had the full support of HMT Academy this year, whose ambition is to develop young riders such as Alex and give them the opportunities they need to be able to ride for teams such as Lotto when they leave the Junior team and move into the under 23 ranks. Alex Braybrooke said

“Last January, when I sat down with my coach, I set out the goal of riding for a World Tour development team. HMT Academy have played a key role in getting me to where I want to be, and without their support I wouldn’t have been able to get the results I needed this year.”

“I’m now really excited to end this season on a high at the Philip Gilbert Classic [Belgium] and Junior Tour of Wales, before I start to focus on next year and my future goals.”

All of the HMT Academy riders, including Braybrooke are coached by Jon Sharples at TrainSharp [http://www.trainsharpcyclecoaching.co.uk/]. Jon provides first class coaching and mentoring to the riders and has been instrumental in their development.

TrainSharp also provides the team with SRM power meters for their Condor bikes, which allow the riders to train and race, while receiving live information about their heart rate, cadence, speed and power output. Jon commented on Alex’s signing, saying “Alex is a true professional and I am confident that this next step up will be good for his development.”

“Alex is extremely good at taking on advice and although this next year will be tough, I’m sure Alex will do very well.”

HMT Academy’s Director Sportive, Mark Barry said “This is a brilliant opportunity for Alex and gives him to opportunities to achieve his ambitions within cycling”. Mark chose the 2015 racing calendar to ensure the team riders had all of the tools needed to build a palmares which would attract the best Under 23 teams in Europe.

Applications for 2016 are now being accepted by the HMT team and the form is downloadable from our website ‘roadraceacademy.cc
