Despite the occasional light shower, conditions remained mainly dry and sometimes sunny for the 246 competitors who made it down to the NSC last Tuesday night for round 14 of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth cycling league.

Having finished in the runners-up spot for the last six weeks, Nicole Astell-Burt finally reached the top spot in the novices class, riding clear of the field for a decisive solo victory. Series leader Abigail Cowell was a safe second and Abbie Jones led Oliver Schofield over the line for third. The consistent Joel Prentice was a good fifth and Luke Campbell ousted Oliver Durcan and George Lee in the rush for sixth. Jasper Whalley and Darcy Killey came in separately to complete the top ten.

In the born 2010 & later category Brad Le Geyt pipped Kylan Murphy in the race for the chequered flag. Danial Minay ousted Dylan Bullock in the battle for the final place on the podium and Joshua Cross stayed clear of chasers Samuel Dowson and leading girl Amelie Geldart to grab fifth. Harrison Skillan and Hugh Osborn were a secure eighth and ninth respectively, while Jayjay Plowman overcame Conor Madsen-Mygdal in the bunch gallop for tenth.

Eddie Dillon continued his domination of the born 2009 category, edging out breakaway companions Jake Jones and Cameron Hounsell in the final sprint to notch up his 13th success of the season. Sean Crone was too strong for May-Saa Smith, Henry Dormer and Abi Clayton in the scrap for fourth, with Kyle Roosenbroek keeping the fast finishing Aaron Kinvig at bay for eighth. Jonah Kenny maintained his position at the head of main chasing group to seize tenth ahead of Travis Bradshaw and Jarno Davidson. Newcomer Zahara Iqbac-Corkill, the late Nick Corkill’s granddaughter, was a very good 14th in a field of more than thirty riders.

Myles Le Geyt had to fend off a strong challenge from T.J.Teare before bagging maximum points in the born 2008 event. Freddie Griffin was a close third and top girl Fearne Bregazzi broke free from the chasing pack to claim fourth. Charlotte Geldart was fifth and Edward Field outran Ryan Nelson for sixth. Ella Darnill got past Charlie Williams on the finishing straight to snatch eighth and Leon Murphy led Bob Radcliffe and Chloe Schofield home to wrap up the top ten.

In the born 2007 class Cian Howard dropped fellow frontrunners Orry Lund, Charlie Scarffe and Rio Kelly in the closing stages to register his 13th success of the season. Jordan Carter had the edge on Florence Griffin in the struggle for fifth and James Kinrade maintained a steady seventh in front of Jemma Quayle, who in turn kept her distance ahead of pursuers Ella Skillan, Ed Coole and Matthew Edwards to safeguard eighth.

Returning after a two week break, Owen Collins picked up from where he left off in the born 2006 class, going from the gun and time trialling to victory. Zachary Dowson gave chase but was unable to bridge the gap and had to settle for the runners-up spot. Tom Caine and Samuel Devereau were third and fourth, with Charlie Teare coming through the field to grab fifth from Sophie Smith, Tom Darnill and Nathan Kinrade. Thobert Kerruish took the charge for ninth ahead of Lucy Field and Rebecca Cooil.

Tyler Annis got the verdict over Oliver Corkish in the group gallop at the end of the born 2005 three lapper. James Scott was third closely followed by Chloe Dillon and Mairi Harrison in fourth and fifth places. Callum Salisbury, Ella Griffin and Harley Howland-Smith completed the result sheet.

In the born 2004 & earlier grouping James Devereau outgunned Matthew Black, Dillon Dowson, Nathan Slack and Shellan Leeming in the final sprint. Leeming made a bold solo bid for glory on the penultimate lap but was reeled in by the four pursuers. Ellie Warren grabbed sixth from Blae Cain and Emily Kinley, while Megan Boardman did well to hold off the rapidly closing Sam Cunningham and Mia Warren in the fight for ninth.

Five riders contested the finish of the under 10 racing bikes, with Niall Colquitt taking the top slot ahead of Owen Collins, Cian Jackson, Cian Howard and Mairi Harrison who was the best girl. Orry Lund got the better of Myles Le Geyt in the scrap for sixth and Tyler Annis spearheaded the second wave of riders in for eighth place. James Scott and Oliver Corkish rounded off the top ten.

In the under 12 racing bikes Tyler Hannay made an early attack and forged ahead unchallenged for another impressive solo win. The following bunch fought over the minor placings in a mass bunch sprint which Jonty Bregazzi won. Matthew Cooil was third ahead of Matthew Black and Tommy Skillicorn, with Kiera Prentice the first girl in eighth position.

Conor Davies was always in the thick of the action in the fast and furious under 16 racing bikes event. The Olympic Development Apprentice got away at half distance and circulated on his own until being caught with just three laps to go. He regrouped for the sprint finish, pipping Adam Kelly on the line for a hard earned victory. Thomas Bostock was third, Dan Scarffe fourth, Harry Cain fifth and Tosh Teare the first of the u/14 riders in sixth place. Lucas Mudie was eighth and Amelia Sharpe the top girl in ninth spot.
