Result – Isle of Man Youth League 15

A shower of rain just after the racing got underway failed to deter the 233 competitors who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 15 of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s Youth Cycling League.

In the novices class Abigail Cowell bounced back from her defeat in the previous round to score her seventh victory of the series. Oliver Durcan was a safe second and Joel Prentice stayed clear of a chasing group of four riders to claim third. Luke Campbell outgunned George Lee, Jack Monaghan and Tyler Oakey-Cowie in the rush for fourth, with Darcy Killey holding off Harvey Wagstaffe in the race for eighth. Paul Naude edged out Dylan Walton and Zachary Bowen in the bunch sprint for tenth.

Brad Le Geyt pipped Kylan Murphy for the honours in the born 2010 & later category. Dylan Bullock was a lonely third and Daniel Minay ousted Joshua Cross in the battle for fourth. Noah Hughes and Hugh Osborn trailed in separately for sixth and seventh, while leading girl Amelie Geldart came out on top in the group gallop for eighth. Finbar McSevney and Darragh Sharkey rounded off the top ten.

In the born 2009 event overall leader Eddie Dillon was too strong for Jake Jones and Cameron Hounsell in the final lunge for the line. Thomas Pickavance led Sean Crone and top girl May-Saa Smith home for fourth, with Jonah Kenny coming from behind in the bunch sprint to snatch seventh from Matthew Hooper. Newcomer William Ditchfield did well to finish 13th on his debut.

Notching up his fourth win in a row, Myles Le Geyt had to work hard to keep runner-up T.J.Teare at bay in the born 2008 age group. Edward Field overcame Charlotte Geldart in the dash for the final place on the podium and Charlie Williams spearheaded Leon Murphy, Ryan Nelson, Harvey Barrow and Chloe Schofield over the line for fifth. Bob Radcliffe guided the second wave of chasers in to grab tenth ahead of Ella Darnill, Jonty Shimmin, Ryan Batty, Tiana Kelly and Robert Tomlinson.

Cian Howard attacked from the gun in the born 2007 race and left the rest of the field in his wheel tracks to fight over the minor placings. Jordan Carter beat Rio Kelly and Charlie Scarffe in the tussle for second, with Orry Lund securing fifth in front of travelling companions James Kinrade, Ben Davies and Cory Corkhill. Jemma Quayle and Jessica Pickavance were ninth and tenth a short distance ahead of the fast finishing Thomas Monaghan, who overtook Ed Coole on the finishing straight to seize 11th.

In the born 2006 class Zachary Dowson recorded his maiden win of the season, using his considerable sprinting abilities to get past breakaway partner Drystan Sewell in the closing stages and take a well-deserved victory . Tom Caine and Samuel Devereau clipped off the front of the chasing pack to claim third and fourth ahead of Nicola Quaye who beat Charlie Teare, Sophie Smith and Lucy Field in the scrap for fifth. Jack Christian and Tom Darnill wrapped up the top ten.

Tyler Annis took maximum points in the born 2005 class in a close tussle with Chloe Dillon, Mairi Harrison and James Scott, while James Devereau got the better of Dillon Dowson, Matthew Black, Nathan Slack and Shellan Leeming in the born 2004 & earlier grouping.

By the time the under 10 racing bikes lined up on the start line the track was completely dry and the sun was out. In what was one of the hardest fought races of the night Cian Jackson outpaced fellow escapee Drystan Sewell to take the win. Tyler Annis came out on top in the bunch sprint for third, with Cian Howard the leading under 8 rider in a close fourth. The girls’ prize went to Mairi Harrison in eighth spot.

In the u/12 racing bikes four riders broke away and were never challenged, even though the pace at the front slowed considerably when the four leaders decided to play cat and mouse. At the finish Tyler Hannay edged out Matthew Cooil, Jack Christian and Matthew Black in the fight for the top slot. Cameron Dudley was a secure fifth and James Devereau inched away from Darcy Cain and Kiera Prentice to grab sixth.

With some of the regular frontrunners away at the British track champs, the U/16 racing bikes was wide open. A ten strong breakaway group formed at the front of the race and stayed clear to the finish where Thomas Bostock was quickest in the race for the flag. Ben Christian and Tosh Teare were second and third followed by Dan Scarffe, Will Corkill and Harry Cain. The girls’ honours went to Amelia Sharpe in tenth place.
