News – Success for Tao Geoghen Hart

Londoner Tao Geoghegan Hart (Axeon Cycling Team ) has finished the high ranking USA Pro Challenge with the Best Young Rider jersey for on the final day of the USA Pro Challenge. The 20-year-old maintained his 15-second lead over fellow Brit Hugh Carthy (Caja Rural-Seguros) to become the third Axeon rider to win the jersey in the race’s five-year’s history. Tao was 7th overall and Hugh 9th.

Axeon team director Axel Merckx said: “We had a really good week. All along we would have said top-ten was a really good result, and that’s what we got with Tao so that’s satisfying. We’re really, really happy about it. You can see the difference in the riders from the beginning of the year to now and most of those riders will still be with us next season”.

“We’re really looking forward to that, but with Alberta coming up soon. Tao will not be with us, but Ruben [Guerreiro] is coming back and other riders from Europe too, so we’re looking forward to one more stage race to go to wrap up the year.”

During the final stage, Geoghegan Hart was protected by the remaining Axeon riders and got safely over the climb before the pace got ramped up massively on the descent.
