Although Fusion RT Gearclub lead, it is by a slim margin with newly rejuvenated Army CU more than capable of earning those extra points to crown what has been a terrific year for them.

Fusion RT Gearclub leads the points table with 1585 points whilst Army CU are just 135 points behind but we know that they can place their riders to overhaul this small deficit so Terry and the Fusion RT team have a battle to win.

The Army CU have impressed all year as they have taken the Women’s Team Series to heart, understanding what is needed and have raced as a team, perhaps it is their day job that reinforces the idea of teamwork whereas it seems to me that other teams have raced to gain BCF licence points for themselves – not the same thing at all.

Just nine times a year riders are asked by their teams to put aside their own personal ambitions and to repay in a small way what their team have done for them during the year, free clothing, free entry fees etc; the rest of the year they can chase licence points but for each of these nine races they are asked to embrace the ethos of being in a team but my own view is that this can be lacking and it really needs tackling if women’s racing prepares riders for greater things.

Surely being in a team that has been named as the Top Team in the country has to mean something?

So to Sunday and what promises to be an exciting race after a long season, all to play (or cycle) for, the new season will see some changes with new races coming through, a couple of changes to the classic 3 Days of Bedford, so the Women’s Team Series continues to grow cementing its place as the major cycle race series for women riders in this country.
