News – Golden Night for GB at Euros
Great Britain Cycling Team added to their Gold medal tally at the 2015 European Track Championships thanks to the winning machines, Laura Trott and Katie Archibald.
Olympic champion Laura Trott continued to dominate the Women’s Omnium with victory in that event, the third win of the championships for her after the Team Pursuit and Scratch Race.
“That’s my tenth European title so I’m super happy with that,†Trott said. “It’s just been great. I absolutely love the Euros. I did it from the very first one in 2010 and I’ve been a European champion in every one I’ve competed at, which I guess is quite lucky. So yeah I’ve really enjoyed this whole week of racing.”
Katie Archibald from Scotland was part of the winning Team Pursuit foursome and then went on to win the Individual Pursuit. Archibald won her third Gold medal in the Women’s Elimination race. It got event better for the GB team with Ciara Horne coming away from the individual pursuit with a bronze medal.
Archibald said after “Pretty happy, pretty sweaty. All the things you’d expect. I think you’ve got to go in imagining you’re going to win. You don’t imagine celebrating or anything like that but you think of the best outcome and how you can get to it.â€
In the final Men’s Endurance event, academy riders Chris Latham and Ollie Wood finished in 12th in the Madison where World Champion from France, Morgan Kniesky, who riders for British team Raleigh GAC, was third. He was partnered with another roadman from France, road sprinter Bryan Coquard.
Whilst the Endurance squad came away from the championships with medal winning rides across the men’s and women’s events, the Sprinters left empty handed. On the final day, in the Keirin events, Jason Kenny and Katy Marchant both went out in the second round whilst Matt Crampton went out in the first round. Vicky Williamson crashed in the Women’s round one competition fortunately suffering no serious injuries.
