News – World Track Cup Day 3

Laura Trott continues to show the world what an outstanding athlete she is after winning the World Cup Women’s Omnium in Cali overnight.

The former British road champion, added another Gold medal to the three she won at the European championships a few weeks ago. The Olympic champion was second in the Flying lap, third in the 500 metre Time Trial before increasing her lead in the Points race.

“We went into it thinking it was just a stand-alone Points race. It’s not very often you go into a World Cup with that sort of lead,” Trott said. “We didn’t want to take anything for granted, I’m here to learn”.

“As much as it was a nice position to be in going into that race, I wanted to come away from the race knowing that I can take laps, knowing that I am strong enough to do that. You can throw it away in a Points race, you can’t just go into the race and think ‘I’ll just follow’. I guess proving to myself I can do it if I have to.”

In the Men’s Omnium, Jon Dibben was also in great form, finishing the event in fifth place. On the final day of the two day event, the former Hargroves Cycles rider was seventh in the Kilometre and 12th in the Flying Lap before yet another awesome ride in the Points race saw Jon climb the classification to fifth place.

Other Events
There were no medals in the others events where the Sprinters again left a major competition not just without a medal but performances well short of the podium. In the Women’s Keirin, Katy Marchant, a newcomer at this level, never got past the first round, whilst in the Men’s Sprint, Olympic champion Jason Kenny was seventh with Lewis Oliva Ninth.
