Team News – Nikki Harris Joins Boels-Dolmans

Team Press Release
One of Britain’s best cyclo-cross riders, Nikki Harris, will be strengthening the Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team from 1 January 2016. The number three at last weekend’s cyclo-cross European Championships in Huijbergen, is certain to give the team more exposure in the field during the winter months.

Harris will be cycling together with Luxembourg champion Christine Majerus, who rides a number of cross races for us each year. The contract of Nikki Harris with the Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team runs until the end of 2016.

Harris has been active in various cycling disciplines over the years, and in the last few years has mainly been focusing on cyclo-cross. To do this, she also lives on Flemish soil for part of the season.

This has paid off for the British cyclist with some well-deserved victories in recent years, such as the British National Cyclo-cross Championships and several medals at the European Championships.

Nikki Harris is a fixed feature on the winner’s stages of the prominent cyclo-cross races. Last year she managed to win a Superprestige race at Spa-Francorchamps, and the 28-year old also won in Rucphen, the Netherlands.

Until the end of this year, Harris will continue to ride for Telenet-Fidea. So far for this team, she has already managed podium finishes in Gieten, Ronse, Zonhoven, de Koppenbergcross, Huijbergen (European Championships) and Niel.

Harris is excited about this new step in her career. “The team offers me the ultimate dream scenario of combining cyclo-cross with road racing. I had always hoped that I would one day find a team where I could do both disciplines at the highest level, but there aren’t many teams out there that can actually do this”.

“Boels-Dolmans is in my opinion the best cycling team on the road. The riders, the support team and the (equipment) sponsors are all incredibly experienced and I can’t wait to start working with all of them”.

“Above all, the team has provided me with everything I need so that I can continue my cyclo-cross career without any problems until the end of the year. If I can find the right balance with combining both disciplines, this could bring out the best I can be as a professional cyclist.”

The ambitions are high for Harris, both on the road and in the field. “In cyclo-cross, I’m aiming for a top-3 position at the World Championships, after coming in fourth last year. The British title is always a major goal for me, just like getting as many podium finishes as possible and, hopefully, winning a World Cup race one day.”

“Another aim is to stay in the top ranks in the BPost Bank Trophy. I’m currently in second place. In road cycling I’ve always had the ambition to be part of a winning team in the classics, and I would love to try to qualify for the Olympics”.

“I have every faith that I can develop myself in such a way with Boels-Dolmans that I can live up to these ambitions.”
