Xmas Interview 3 – Ian Willkinson

A double winner of the CiCLE Classic and Tour Series winner as well, Ian ‘superman’ Wilkinson will ride for Pedal Heaven in 2016. The Lancashire rider has also finished a very close second on a stage of the Tour of Britain, won Prems and one of the leading riders in Britain. He will for sure be one of his new team’s winners next season.

1. With your team all sorted for 2016, what races are you looking forward to most next season?
Wilkes: Usual. Spring classics. Tour of Great big Britain.

2. What were your highlights in 2015?
Wilkes: Sagan winning the worlds

3. What race was the most fun in 2015 and why?
Wilkes: Leicester castle kermesse.

4. What’s the best piece of cycling related advice you’ve ever been given and who gave it to you?
Wilkes: Move up!

5. Tell us about your winter training bike, what is different about it compared to your race bike?
Wilkes: Same bike all year but with mud guards. Use the MTB a lot too.

6. How will you spend December on the bike – at home or abroad, long miles only or a mixture of intervals and miles and bike only or gym/cross training too?
Wilkes: At home. Short miles only. Some hard hills. Might pump out some squats too!

Wilkes: I’ve got the park tools bog roll holder. What else is needed!!?
