Xmas Feature – Harry Tanfield (Pedal Heaven)
1. With your team all sorted for 2016, what races are you looking forward to most next season?
Harry: The calendar sounds pretty solid. Lots of invites to UCI races in Europe. Obviously the Tour of Britain is a massive goal. I really want to have a crack at that! But also the Tour Of Yorkshire again, especially with Middlesbrough announced as one of the host towns and the route actually goes through my village.
2. What were your highlights in 2015?
Harry: I would say the Rutland (CiCLE Classic) this year was a real high, I felt that I was riding really well around that period and that led nicely into Yorkshire. Then again, just winning some local races towards the back end of the year, feeling the form again I had at the start of the season. Shame there were no races left …
3. What race was the most fun in 2015 and why?
Harry: I would probably say one of the early season CDNE Summer Series races, the Thursday before Rutland. Me against the full Achieve team, with them taking it in turns to hit me. Anyway, kept it together for a bunch sprint and managed to just edge out Craig. Was a real good nights training!
4. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given and who gave it to you?
Harry: If your not moving up, your moving backwards. Pretty sure related to bunch positioning. Can’t exactly remember where from though, although it sticks in my mind.
5. Tell us about your winter training bike, what is different about it compared to your race bike?
Harry: This year at the end of the year, I just completely flipped and bought a brand new Cervelo S2, from the local bike shop in the village. (NRG Cycles). The price was just to good to refuse! Planning to get away to Spain a couple of times this winter so will just be sticking on that, until the new Specialized arrives in the new year. Got some of the SKS full mudguards on it though to keep the lads happy on the club runs :)
Will be good to be back on a Specialized next year, just got fitted up at the Specialized HQ this week.
6. Finally, How will you spend December on the bike
Harry: I spent the first week of the month flat out on a uni assignment to get it in for the 7th before I left on the 9th for Spain. Now I am here until the 22nd and it’s nice just to be able to ride and have no other worries. Plenty of interval work in there from the coach as well as backing it up with some base miles while I’m here making most of the sun. Be rude not to. Will be nice to spend Christmas with the family this year to so looking forward to that after two big weeks here.
