Last weekend, the riders all headed North for Round 5 of the National Trophy in Bradford. Both Ian Field and Nick Barnes were able to wrap up the series with a race to spare and they both did that in style!

The conditions were absolutely dreadful with a lot of running sections and bike changes required every half lap! Ian started fast and led the elite race for most of the race being caught by Liam Killeen with two laps to go. Liam led from Ian about 10 seconds behind by the finish.

However there was a twist as Liam had made an infringement of the rules and was disqualified therefore handing the race to Ian. Although this isn’t the way Ian wanted to win, a win is a win and this meant that Ian has won 5 out of 5 rounds of the series and successfully defended his yellow jersey.

Nick Barnes also had a great start and was in the chase group behind Ian. He maintained a solid position all the way to the end finishing in 7th position and 1st under 23 to snatch the series up and win the green jersey for the first time!

Elsewhere in the race Steve James had another storming ride finishing in 9th position, Steve has shown a great progression of form throughout the season and will be aiming for the nationals! Jody Crawforth finished in 16th place, Tom Van Den Bosch recovered from a big first lap crash to finish in 19th place with Michael Butler not far behind in 21st place.

In other races, Harry Yates had an off day in the difficult conditions finishing in 11th place in the junior race. Having a slightly off day in these conditions is amplified to seem much worse than they actually are. We are sure Harry will be back up the front soon! Crispin Doyle finished in 10th place in the Vet 40 race.

This coming weekend we have 3 riders riding the World Cup in Namur. The Bradford race would have certainly prepared them well. It’s a tough hilly course that is always muddy and brings out the hard riders. Ian Field, Nick Barnes and Harry Yates will all be riding so be sure to watch them on the UCI channel and give our riders lots of support.
