Lansley

Adrian Lansley (PedalOn) survived the worst conditions possible to win the latest round of the Wessex Cyclo Cross League at the Southampton Sports Centre. He was pushed all the way until the last half a lap by Jody Crawforth (Hargroves Cycles) winning with a margin of just 7secs. Sam Allan (PedalOn) was third finishing just over a minute down.

Heavy overnight rain and another down pour early morning turned the course into a mud fest. Even the earlier races did little to chew up the ground as the heavy rain washed even more slippery mud to the surface.

Allan was the first to make a move leading the race through the early parts, and along with Lansley and Crawforth the three soon started to build a lead. Whilst Lansley and Crawforth followed each other Allan was 90secs down but 1 minute ahead of Ryan Smith (Team Moore Fitness) with Joe Andrews closing out the top five.

At the bell Lansley held a slender lead of 8secs over Crawforth, but with half a lap to go he put in a dig to open the gap through to the finish line. Allan completed the podium with Smith fourth and Andres fifth.

The vet 50+ race saw Steven Davies (Hargroves Cycles) show he is coming into form ahead of the Nationals next weekend by leading his race in commanding style. Davies started fast then built a lead over Tim Costello (GS Vecchi) to 50secs. Dave McMullen (Cotswold Veldrijden) was third with Chris Hutchings (VC Venta) and Kevin Holloway (GS Vecchi) rounding out the top five.

In the Women’s race junior rider Natasha Reddy (RP Racing) was very strong leading her race from start to finish with Helen Pattinson (Solent Pirates) second and Sarah Barber (NHRC) on the third step of the podium.

The vet 40 race was won by Dan Guest (Performance Cycles) seemingly revelling in the mud as he slipped with ease into a big lead on the opening lap. Christopher Rothwell (Ride 24/7) was the quickest junior finishing second in the overall race.

Erin Baker (Team MK) won the youth race ahead of Archie Scott (Cotswold Veldrijden) with Will Cooper (I-team CC) third.
