Adam racing the 10 champs in 2015

1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Adam: I will probably be racing a few times in February, maybe the odd Time Trial or National B. I’ve not really thought about it yet!

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Adam: This season I will focus all my efforts on peaking for the World Para-cycling Track Championships where Steve Bate and I are expected to compete in the Tandem B 4km Pursuit and hopefully upon selection, compete at the Paralympic games in Rio in September.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training? Long miles or cutting back to do top end efforts?
Adam: Training at the moment is all concentrated on long miles with some efforts but the majority of it is just riding. By February, it’s likely the training will focus more on the Track due to the World Para Track Champs at the end of March.

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Adam: Well, by my age, you get socks and aftershave!

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet? (if the latter, what’s your favourite tip to stay dry in the rain)
Adam: I try to avoid spending a lot of time on the turbo. If I can get out on the road, even if it’s raining, I will nearly always choose that! Top tips for training in the rain… If I know it’s going to be a wet one, I put my foot in a plastic bag, put my shoe on, put another plastic bag over my shoe then the overshoe over the top! Wear a good winter jacket and take a rain cape obviously. Good gloves are a must, in the rain preferably the ones made of the wetsuit type material which keep your hands warm even though they are wet.

6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Adam: I would probably choose the World Scratch Race to race on my own as I’ve had my most success riding Scratch Race events, but I have to say it will be a dream come true to ride in Rio with Steve!

7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Adam: I am not really fussy with food, I eat most things. I do miss cordial type drinks when I’m away and always go and try to find a bottle of cordial so I don’t have to drink plain water or energy drinks all the time (snap says editor …).

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Adam: If I am getting fired up for a race I listen to Marilyn Manson or some sort of dance music!

9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Adam: I don’t really see the need for disc brakes on a road bike to be honest but it may make sense on our tandem! We have melted carbon wheels braking down a hill before which would could be eliminated with disc brakes.

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Adam: I haven’t actually got a domestic team sorted out yet! I have a Cervelo S3 with full DuraAce supplied by the GB Team which I will likely race on. I always loved the Cervelos so I am really happy to be now riding on one!
