Everyone seemed to be in high spirits after the Christmas break which was a perfect antidote to the conditions, although the forecast rain held off.

A field of 18 women started 90 seconds after the 4th cat race and with both events settling into a fast even pace no one was strong enough to break clear, with many going backwards. Attempts were made but it was one of those days when nothing would stick. On the last lap gaps appeared in the front of the group with Clare Ross (The 5th Floor CC) almost latching onto the back of the 4th cat riders; across the line she was several lengths clear of second place Gem Atkinson (Rapha CC) with her team mate Adeline Moreau who was 3rd.

The 4th Cat. finish was always going to be a hard fought finish and so it proved with Ian Bray (Addiscombe CC) holding off Michael Weekes (London Dynamo) and Rob Walker (High Wycombe CC). Michael Weekes (London Dynamo) wins the Imperial Cycles random prize (2nd place) and can look forward to his bike having spa-like treatment for 2016!

The E123 Race started with a bang, with Rory Townsend (Pedal Heaven), Graham Crow, (Handsling Racing) and Tim O’Rourke (Imperial RT) having the courage to attack early in the race. They were never likely to be caught lapping between 2:08 and 2:15 with only Crow dropping back as the pace was relentless. There were attempts to close on the flying duo but no one seemed likely to bridge the gap with their speed and consistency.

They caught the main group with 8 km to go, riding through but Townsend took the opportunity to distance O’Rourke for a lone win which he was clearly pleased about. Jo Skelton (Look Mum No Hands) brought the main group in sprinting to a strong 3rd place, just ahead of Gary Taylor (Handsling Racing) and Garth Dickinson (VC Meudon).
