1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Gruffudd: What’s nice about the way Madison Genesis structure early season calendar is that they normally spend February away training, hopefully bringing team spirits and form together ready for March. It would be nice to do one or two National B’s before the big stuff and with ‘The tour of the Mining valleys’ a local race here in Aberystwyth, that would be perfect way to kick start the 2016 campaign.

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Gruffudd: By now I am used to racing the British elite calendar which I thoroughly enjoy so 2106 will see the original Lincoln GP return after a two year absence (Nationals test event, and then the Nationals). This year it’s back to just the Michaelgate circuit which is always a Classic. But for me I want new races. I have not been a UCI rider since UK Youth so hopefully I will gain selection at the British UCI races Tour de Yorkshire, Tour of Britain and being Welsh, the Velothon Wales.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Gruffudd: If I’m totally honest, I have a cross bike, a road bike and a MTB. Through November and December, I have been riding them all. It’s pretty much impossible not to do short efforts while out on the MTB bike and I have raced a few Welsh league ‘cross races which is loads of fun. I’m not the best cross rider but just totally love that side of the sport. So to answer your question, a bit of everything!

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Gruffudd: Turkey dinner.

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Gruffudd: It’s MTB time when it rains. I don’t care getting wet and muddy on the MTB, it’s technical and intense keeping you warm and your mind occupied. I’m the kind of guy that makes hay while the sun shines. I had 10 days in Lanzarote in December which broke it up as well.

6. If you could do any race in the world including World Tour etc, what would it be and why?
Gruffudd: I have never really thought about this and it’s always nice racing at home, so I would say Tour of Britain. If I had to choose overseas, I will go with Ronde van Vlaanderen (Flanders).

7. Who’s your favourite rider in the pro peloton (either UK or WorldTour/ProConti)
Gruffudd: I do really like watching Greg Van Avermaet.

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Gruffudd: Shaggy – Boombastic. Mr lova lova, you know the score Larry ….

9. If given the option, normal brakes or discs?
Gruffudd: For the road, normal brakes.

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Gruffudd: It’s a Genesis Zero, Di2 with PRO finishing kit. Dura Ace tubular wheels wrapped in Continental tyres, can’t argue with that. Favourite bit so far would have to be ‘Turnix AF saddle’ – really getting on with it
