Report – Revolution 57

Dibben and Doull wrapped up the Revolution Series finale by winning every race of the elite championship, securing overall victory at the National Cycling Centre on January 23. It was teamwork that won the pair the overall series and the madison time-trial on the evening, beating their closest rivals in the standings, Pedalsure, by four tenths of a second.

Welsh rider, Doull was elated with their win, “It’s great, it’s the first Revolution I’ve taken part in as Team Wiggins, and we’ve had different riders come in [to represent us]. It really shows the depth of the team. It helps being such good mates, me and Jon [Dibben] live together so we’re always with each other. There is only one year between us and we’ve been racing together since we were 12 so it makes a big difference.”

It looked like a crash that caught Dibben’s rear wheel would spoil the Team Wiggins party, but Dibben managed to stay upright and they went on to win the final elite championship race of the evening, the team elimination. Confusion over the final sprint lap lead Andy Tennant to believe he and teammate Chris Latham had won, but in the end it was given to the boys from Team Wiggins.

Great Britain’s golden girl Laura Trott was in her usual winning ways in her first race after winning gold in the omnium at the Hong Kong World Cup. She won the points race by a 48 point margin lapping the field 3 times – glowing with confidence ahead of the World Track Championships. Emily Nelson who has improved at every round this season, seemed to be the only rider who could challenge Trott, winning the elimination/scratch race and finishing second in the elimination race.

Theo Bos made a memorable return to the Revolution Series. The five time World Champion won the sprint final against British national champion Lewis Oliva. Matt Rotherham came third, edged out by 26cm to Bos in the semi-final.

However the local-boy didn’t let that knock his morale, “From race to race my morale is increasing and to race against riders such as Theo Bos, who were heroes when I was young is great, and no other racing has that. To come here and give my best performances is really special.

Rotherham also welcomes the rivalry from British national sprint champion Lewis Oliva, “It’s a rivalry that’s starting to build I guess, I’ve always looked up to Lewis since I was a young sprinter and he was a junior. In the national champs he got the better of me in the final, but since then I’ve beat him a couple of times at Revolution so to have the chance to race against Lewis is great.”

Sir Chris Hoy crowned Jessica Roberts and Lewis Stewart the HOY Future Stars champions for the 2015/16 season. The two riders were the most consistent over the whole of the series, but not without fierce competition from their peers, especially the boy’s competition that ended incredibly close. Roberts also made sure that she led USN to win the overall best team.
