Scotland’s Ashleigh Fraser of Fusion RT Fierlan takes the VeloUK question and answer challenge
Feature: Ashleigh Fraser Q&A
 1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Ashleigh: I will be kicking my road season off with the Gifford Road Race (1st round of the Scottish National Series) on the 12th March 2016.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Ashleigh: Scottish Road Race Championships – This is my national championship and it is a big goal of mine to perform well here. Scottish Crit Championships – This is a race that I love, it’s fast, punchy and again, to perform well is a big goal.
British National Road Race Series – I want to learn as much as possible from these races and my competitors in order to make the next step up. Ras Na mBan – This is a stage race which attracts competitors from all over the world so to compete at this event will be a massive learning curve and will also hopefully set me up well for future stage races in which I would like to compete.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?Â
Ashleigh: I will be keeping the long miles but will also start to include top end efforts.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Ashleigh: My Seal Skinz winter over shoes and Beatz headphones!
5. When it rains, which it’s doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?Â
Ashleigh: It’s a mixture of both really. I try to keep the variety! My top tip for rainy rides would be to invest in a really good waterproof and windproof jacket, gloves and overshoes. If you get these items right you will have a much more enjoyable ride!
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Ashleigh: The World Championships and the Olympics would be the ultimate races to compete in. They are the pinnacle of our sport, and to just compete in them would be an amazing experience!
Other than that I would really love to compete at the Absa Cape Epic sometime in the future! It is a mountain bike stage race held in South Africa. You compete in pairs, and over 8 days you cover more than 700km and some say it is the ‘Tour De France’ of Mountain biking – so awesome!
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season?
Ashleigh: Porridge oats and bananas!
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Ashleigh: At the moment I really like “Light it up (Remix)†– by Major Lazer and “Alive†– by Sia
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Ashleigh: I don’t have a strong preference really! I feel that I can adapt between different types equipment pretty easily with enough practice.
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Bike: Scott Foil 10 – white
Group set: SRAM
Wheels: Syncros – Carbon deep section
Pedals: Power Tap
My favourite parts are probably the Syncros wheels and Power Tap pedals.
